Rescue A Maltese In Florida

Rescue a Maltese in Florida

A Maltese is a toy dog usually less than seven pounds with a white coat. Many dogs each year are in need of rescue and you can help. Taking in a rescue dog in Florida isn’t hard to do and with a Maltese, it is no different. However, there are a few things you should know to help with your search. Take the first step to a fulfilling experience by rescuing a Maltese in Florida.

Instructions

1. Join a reputable rescue group in your area of Florida. There are many rescue groups that can aid in your rescue efforts. Decide which area of Florida you’d like to participate in your Maltese rescue. If you cannot find a specific Maltese rescue group in your area of Florida, you can join a rescue group for all breeds of dogs and specify your preference in the Maltese breed.

2. Be on a contact list from humane societies and vets. Let them know that you are interested in being a rescue contact for a Maltese in the area of Florida. Keep in mind that calls can come in at any time of the day or night if one should become available so be prepared to accept your rescued Maltese.

3. Make sure your family and home is ready for a Maltese at a moment’s notice. Have on hand the things you would need for any pet, including food, water bowls, toys and bedding. Your dog will be confused and most likely scared. Be sure to provide a calm and serene environment for the new arrival.

4. Know your limitations. A new dog can be a great responsibility and if you already have dogs, a family or other pets, rescuing a Maltese can add to that chaos. Be sure that you can provide a stable and friendly home in Florida. Your rescue Maltese has already been through a lot having been to different temporary homes. Make sure that your home is a loving environment and ready to accept a new arrival.

5. Keep in mind that your dog may have behavioral issues. A new dog can have problems with house training, barking and even medical problems. Ensure that you are ready to accept a Maltese with any of these problems. A rescue can be in need of a home due to any of these issues so keep that in mind when deciding to rescue a Maltese.

6. Be sure to take your name off of any contact lists if you decide to only rescue one Maltese in Florida. Another home in Florida may be in want of a rescue as well. It will make things easier on the proper contacts if you are not called unnecessarily. Be sure to notate any changes such as status of rescue availability, phone number, address and special situations.
