Put A Diabetic Cat Up For Adoption

Every year thousands of cats are euthenized in shelters.

Making the choice to find another home for your pet can be very difficult. Giving up a cat that has special needs, such as diabetes, can make the situation even more stressful. Finding the right organization or home that will provide the very best medical care and emotional stability is important for both you and your cat. You can make the transition to a new home easier for your disabled cat.

Instructions

1. Take your cat to the vet one last time for a check-up. Notify the veterinarian that you wish to give your pet up for adoption and state your reasons why. If the reason centers on affordability of care, tye veterinarian may to help you be able to keep your cat by offering discounted medicine or assistance. Inquire if you may post adoption information at the vet's office or have the staff refer you to other resources.

2. Call local shelters and ask about procedures for putting your special-needs cat up for adoption. Often the process is the same as for putting any other pet in a shelter. You will generally have to fill out some forms, give the shelter your driver;s license number and telephone number.

3. Gather your cat's belongings, including medical history, vaccination records, medications, toys and brushes. Put your cat in a safe cat carrier for the car ride. When you arrive at the shelter, keep calm, say goodbye quickly and hand the carrier with the cat to an attendant. The faster you make the transition, the easier it will be for both you and the cat.
