Shenandoah National Park Camping & Cabins

A waterfall in Shenandoah National Park.

The Shenandoah National Park is one of the largest protected areas in the Appalachian Mountain Range, comprising approximately 80,000 acres of officially designated wilderness. Visitors have various accommodation choices available to them, including both cabins and campgrounds located throughout the park.

Lewis Mountain Cabins

The park's historic Lewis Mountain Cabins are furnished and have private bathrooms, heat, and an outdoor sheltered pit grill. The cabins also come equipped with towels, linens, and a picnic table. These cabins have electricity, but there are no phones or Internet access, to maximize your enjoyment of the peace and quiet. These cabins are very popular overnight destinations and should be booked early.

Big Meadows Lodge & Cabins

Big Meadows Lodge not only has guest rooms in the main lodge, but also has a number of cabins. All of the Big Meadows cabins are within easy walking distance of the lodge and have one double bed, clock radio, and a coffeemaker. But they do not have phones, television, or Internet access. Some cabins also have fireplaces. The cabins' proximity to the main lodge building gives guests easy access to the Spotswood Dining Room, the New Market Tap Room, and a craft shop.

Shenandoah National Park Campgrounds

Shenandoah National Park has four different campgrounds: Mathews Arm, Big Meadows, Lewis Mountain, and Loft Mountain. Mathews Arm campground is located near the trail that leads to the park's tallest waterfall, the Overall Run Falls. Camping supplies and food service is located two miles from this campground. Big Meadows campground is located near the lodge and near many of the park's most popular trails, as well as three waterfalls. Lewis Mountain campground is a smaller, more private campground that only has 31 campsites. Loft Mountain campground is the park's largest and sits on top of Big Flat Mountain. This campground is near two waterfalls, as well as trails that run into the Big Run Wilderness area. Three of these campgrounds are capable of accommodating larger R/V's: Mathew's Arm, Big Meadows, and Loft Mountain.
