Get A Birth Certificate For My Adopted Daughter

You should always have your child's birth certificate available.


Adopting a child is a wonderful experience that comes with much responsibility. One problem that can arise after some adoptions is the lack of a birth certificate. Birth certificates are needed to register for Social Security cards, driver's licenses and other services. It's easy to obtain a birth certificate for your child, however, even if they're adopted. Once you have it, you should keep it in a safe place.


Instructions


1. Log on to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's website at cdc.gov. They have a list of where to write in each state for Vital Records including birth certificates.


2. Select the state where your child was born. Clicking the link will give you information about get a certified copy in that state, how much it will cost and who you need to contact.


3. Write down all the information you have about the child. Include their name, date of birth, place of birth, birth parents' names, sex and race. Write down all this information about yourself as well and include a copy of your photo ID. Explain that you are the child's adopted parent. As such, you're entitled to their birth certificate.


4. Send this information, as requested in each state, along with a check or cashier's check for the appropriate fee, to the office listed on the CDC's website.
