The Community Colleges List For San Diego County

San Diego County, California is home to eight community colleges in five districts.


San Diego County, California extends from Oceanside in the north to the Mexican border on the south. The county is home to five community college districts, two of which have multiple schools. The schools offer associate's degrees and certificates in hundreds of fields, as well as continued education opportunities for adults.


Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District


The Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District has two colleges in El Cajon. Both have associate's degree and certificate programs in more than 50 categories. Cuyamaca Community College has more than 10,000 students, and prides itself on student support services. The school fields intercollegiate teams in 10 sports and has a full range of club activities. Grossmont Community College has more than 20,000 students, and substantial programs in dance and theater. The school has 14 intercollegiate sports teams.


San Diego Community College District


The San Diego Community College District consists of three colleges and one continuing education center. Together the three schools serve more than 50,000 students and have associate's degree and certificate programs in hundreds of subjects. The largest, Mesa College, has 20 intercollegiate athletic teams and a wide variety of clubs and extracurricular activities. Miramar College, with easy access to Interstate 15, fields intercollegiate teams in basketball, soccer and water polo. City College has 13 intercollegiate athletics teams, and clubs on subjects that range from Spanish language and heritage to the environment.


MiraCosta Community College


MiraCosta Community College has campuses in Oceanside and San Elijo. It has a faculty to student ratio of one to 30. The school has bachelor's degrees, associate's degrees and certificates in nearly 80 disciplines, including business administration, nursing, accounting, psychology, real estate and commercial music. MiraCosta has more than 30 clubs, and intercollegiate athletic teams in soccer, basketball, and surfing. MiraCosta also has a wellness center and childcare services. Both campuses are minutes from the beach.


Palomar College


Palomar College in San Marcos has a 250-acre main campus and more than 32,000 students. The college also has an educational center, as well as several outreach locations. The school offers degrees and certificates in more than 300 areas, including welding, zoology, public safety and performing arts. The full athletics program includes intercollegiate teams in football, baseball, softball, water polo and tennis. The school also has a full fine arts curriculum, with frequent dramatic, dance, and musical productions in the 400-seat Howard Brubeck Theater.


Southwestern College


Southwestern College consists of a main campus in Chula Vista and two learning centers. It is the only institution of higher learning between San Diego and the Mexican border. Southwestern has 20,000 students and 300 degree or certificate programs covering subjects like architecture, nursing, fire science, dental hygiene, biotechnology and surgical technology. Noncredit courses are available for personal and professional development through the continuing education department. An honors program is also available.
