Donate A Cat

Animal shelters are usually non-profit organizations that accept donations of animals, money and volunteer time. If you are looking to donate a cat, an animal shelter is the first place you should look. Most counties or towns have their own government-run shelters, but there may be other privately run animal shelters that may accept a donated cat.

Instructions

1. Look in your phone book under animal shelters to find a local government-run shelter to accept your donation of a cat. The Humane Society is usually a good place to start.

2. Place a call to the shelter to find out its policies on accepting a cat donation.

3. Be prepared to answer questions about the condition of the cat, including immunizations and medications the cat may be on. They may not take feral cats at some of these locations.

4. Call a private animal shelter to find out its policies on accepting cat donations.

5. Consider that some private animal shelters may ask for a financial donation if you plan to donate a cat to them. They operate on minimal funds, and taking in a cat may be a cost to them.

6. Visit your local vet to learn about organizations that may want to accept a cat as a donation.

7. Try donating to a hospice; some will accept a cat as a donation if the animal has the proper temperament to be with sick people.
