Adopt A Siberian Baby

To adopt a Siberian baby, you need to follow the same rules as you would for any other Russian-area adoption. There are several international agencies that work to facilitate the adoption of orphans in Siberia and throughout Russia. According to Adoption.com, 1,865 Russian children of various ages and ethnicities were adopted by couples from the United States in 2008.

Instructions

1. Locate an agency that works to facilitate Russian adoptions. According to Adoption.com, popular accredited agencies include Adoption Associates, World Association for Children and Parents, Building Blocks Adoption, Adoptions from the Heart and Adopt-A-Child Inc.

2. Discuss any questions you many have with the agency before submitting an application. Ask if you can specify the gender and age of the child you would like to adopt, how long you should expect to wait and from what areas of Siberia they place children.

3. Submit an application form along with any supporting documents such as background and credit checks, proof of income, marital status and character references. Also submit the U.S. government form Petition to Classify Orphan as an Immediate Relative, known as Form I-600a.

4. Cooperate with the adoption agency during any home visits, follow-up questionnaires or other elements of the adoption process. Your agency representative should communicate anything that is expected of you during this process.

5. Travel to Russia to meet your new child and discuss the finalization of adoption procedures with the orphanage and social workers in Siberia. These people should provide you with a court date to finalize the adoption.

6. Return to Russia for formal court proceedings. Pay any adoption fees and fill out any required forms.

7. Return to the United States with your legally adopted child from Siberia.
