Land A Commercial Audition For Teenagers

Some teens want nothing more than to get in front of the camera.

Some parents dream of fame and fortune for their teenagers, and some teenagers want nothing more than to get in front of the spotlight. Give your teens the best chance for a career in performing but only let them deal with honest and professional people. Lots of people want to take advantage of star struck teens and unsuspecting parents. However, with just a little caution, you can start your teen on the role to his/her first commercial audition with no problems.

Instructions

1. Enroll your teen in acting classes. Look for a legitimate acting teacher with a studio devoted to acting. Do not sign up for modeling classes, or classes that are required by someone purporting to be an agent. Look for an actual acting school with a pedigree of successful students.

2. Get headshots taken by a professional headshot photographer. Ask someone at the acting studio to recommend a good photographer. The school should be able to recommend several. Again, avoid package deals of any kind through agents or modeling companies. Also, if a prospective agent tells you that you need headshots from a certain photographer to work with him/her, then walk away and find another agent.

3. Apply to agents. Send your teen's resume and headshot to agencies and be sure to include any acting experience or classes that he/she has taken on the resume. Look for agents that specialize in teenagers. Never sign up with an agent that asks you to pay anything or tries to up-sell you services. A reputable agent gets paid only when your teen gets paid for work. The only money an agent should receive from you is the commission on any work that you book through the agency.

4. Ask your teen's agent to submit your teen for auditions. This is a far more productive way to actually land auditions than to try cold submits or cattle calls. Someone represented by an agent with a good reputation in the business will have a very good chance of at least getting called in for a look for commercials that he/she is right for.
