Adopt A Child In Kentucky

If you think you are ready to adopt in Kentucky, contact the Adoption Services Branch.


Having a child and raising a family is a deeply personal choice, and one that not all future parents are ready for. For people who want to raise a child, adoption is an choice. Kentucky, like other states, allows persons who are at least 21-years-old to adopt. People can choose to adopt a child from Kentucky or elsewhere, including children from other countries. Interested prospective parents must comply with the rules and regulations of the Adoption Services Branch of Kentucky's Cabinet for Health and Family Services.


Instructions


1. Contact the adoption staff at the Adoption Services Branch by calling 800-928-4303. According to The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, adoption staff will provide you with information and a contact number for a local agent in your area.


2. Call the local agent in your area. Provide him with information about yourself and your household. Schedule a time when you can attend an informational meeting about adoptions in Kentucky.


3. Attend the informational meeting. At this meeting you may ask questions about adoption and you can fill out the preliminary paperwork necessary to adopt in Kentucky.


4. Complete 10 training classes from the Kentucky Adoption Services Branch. The total time it takes to complete this course is roughly 30 hours. During this course, you will learn more about the adoption process and fill out more paperwork.


5. Complete the adoption application packet and attend home visits scheduled by the Kentucky Adoption Services Branch. Wait for an approval letter from the Adoption Services Branch informing you if you have been certified to adopt. Children will be placed in your home based on their needs once you become certified.
