Ideas For Baby Invitations

A well-executed invitation for a baby shower can provide insight to appropriate dress.

Invitations convey not only obvious information such as time, date and location but also theme and even hints about appropriate attire. While a number of websites and stores offer pre-printed invitations, handmade or original designs go a long way in indicating just how personal and special the celebration will be --- especially when it comes to announcing festivities for your baby. Does this Spark an idea?

Memorable Quotes

Rather than mailing a traditional invitation that most guests will likely discard, give them a reason to hang onto the card by inviting them to write a piece of parenting advice on it. Collect the invitations from guests, even if they will not be able to attend the event, and compile them into a scrapbook or photo album. Quotes can include advice for new parents at baby showers, advice for a baby to read when they reach their 18th birthday and even quotes to remind them of their baptism or christening. Include photographs of the event and place them in the album with the quotes. Go a step further by creating a time capsule of the event and giving it to them when they are older.

Guessing Baby Shower Game Invites

For parents who have chosen not to find out the sex of their baby before the baby shower, play a guessing game with the guests. Whether family and friends can be present or not, allow everyone to participate by asking each individual to indicate their best guess about the baby's gender on their invitations. You can also have guests guess weight, date of birth and even time, and award a certificate to the person who ends up with the most correct answers.

Photo Invitations

For crafty hosts who plan to create their invitations, the use of the mother's ultrasound can be a creative addition for a baby shower invite. If the baby is about to turn 1 years old or enter into a baptism or christening, use a photograph of them in a special outfit or even just a candid snapshot from the family album. Scan the picture into your computer using a digital scanner. Use it as you would any other clip art image or photograph in a card template from your word processing program as the front of the invitation or even the inside. If you are unable to scan the photo, take it to your local copy center to see if they can create a digital copy for you to use.

Rhymes, Riddles and Poems

Poems and rhymes have always been a catchy way to announce an event. Make use of a classic nursery rhyme or use boy/girl poems for a baby shower invitation. Use scripture passages about baptism or christening on the invitation. When celebrating the baby's first birthday, experiment with funny rhymes or poems about finally turning 1 or that represent the theme of the party (e.g. teddy bears, one, Mickey Mouse or even farm animals). Make a game out of the invitations by offering guests the chance to solve riddles by the time they arrive at the celebration, and award prizes that match the theme or riddle to those who arrive with the right answer.
