Donate Doghouses

Give a dog a home by donating a dog house.

There are plenty of places that would be happy to receive a used dog house for dogs in need when you no longer need it. Local animal shelters, dog rescue organizations, humane societies and kennels are a good place to start. Be sure to check with the organization first, though, as some may have restrictions as to what kinds of dog houses they will accept as a donation.

Dog Rescue Organizations

Many dog rescue organizations will gladly accept used dog houses. The Alaskan Malumute Rescue organization in New England, for example, accepts dog houses. Although used, it is assumed that the dog houses will be in a reasonable condition. There may be other specifications. If you are planning on donating a dog house to a rescue organization that specifically accommodates very large dogs, then any donated dog house will need to be the appropriate size for that specific breed of dog. If you have a very small dog house, consider a Chihuahua rescue organization or other rescue organization of toy breeds.

Humane Societies and Animal Shelters

Look up your local Humane Society and ask what kinds of donations they receive. Dog houses are usually accepted as long as they are in good condition. If your dog house is very small or very large and there is more than one animal shelter in your area, you may want to call ahead and find out which shelter or Humane Society needs dog houses to match the size of the one you have.

Kennels

Check out the local kennels in your area to see if they could use a dog house. Alternatively, ask friends, co-workers, and relatives if they know of anyone that could use a dog house. As a last resort, put your dog house in front of your house with a sign reading "Free" attached to it. If it is not gone in a few days, try animal shelters or rescue organizations and ask if they will come and pick it up.

Donations

Most animal shelters and dog rescue organizations would gladly accept other kinds of donations such as cages and crates of all sizes. Other items that are typically needed include blankets, towels, leashes, collars, pet toys, food/drink bowls, dog food and kitty litter. Monetary donations are always welcome too, of course, as there are costs to operating an animal shelter or rescue organization including veterinary expenses.
