Get Financial Assistance For A Pet Surgery

Ask your veterinarian for the most cost-effective surgical option.

Many pets are euthanized every year because their owners cannot afford the medical treatments necessary to help them get healthy again. When a pet owner takes her pet to the veterinarian and finds out the pet needs a surgery she cannot afford, in many cases the veterinarian will tell the owner it's more humane to put the pet to sleep than it is to let it suffer with the condition. However, programs do exist to help pet owners struggling to raise the money for surgery.

Instructions

1. Find organizations that are willing to help with financial assistance for pet surgeries. Two websites that provide lists of these organizations are the Animal Friends Rescue Project and the Daily Tail (see Resources). A few examples of organizations listed on these sites include American Animal Hospital Association Helping Pets Fund, Angels 4 Animals, Help-A-Pet and In Memory Of Magic.

2. Go to each of the organizations' websites and see if your situation meets the criteria for help. For example, the American Animal Hospital Association requires candidates to meet financial hardship, treatment eligibility and patient eligibility requirements. Each organization has its own rules and criteria, so keep looking until you find the one that's right for you.

3. Fill out the application to apply for help. Each organization provides applications and details regarding the application process on its website. Follow the instructions given for each individual organization.

4. Apply to as many programs as possible. Applications could be denied by one program simply because they ran out of money at a given time. By applying to several, you'll have a greater chance of being accepted into one.

5. Wait for responses to your applications. When you get an approval, make arrangements with your veterinarian to proceed with your pet's surgery.
