Bond With a Chihuahua
As a general rule the Chihuahua will bond closely to one or two people and will prefer them over all others. They are affectionate pets and will remain a loyal companion for as long as they live, which is typically 8 to 15 years. You may wonder how a person develops such a close bond with their dog. It’s actually quite easy to become your dog’s best friend. Here are some steps that you can take to develop a close relationship with your Chihuahua.

1. Play with your Chihuahua. It is very playful and enjoys frolicking with their humans. Try a nice game of tug of war with a rope toy, or play fetch with a rubber ball.
2. Groom him. Brush his coat with a soft-bristled brush. Give him a bath in the kitchen sink and then towel dry. Not only will your dog look great, but he will develop tremendous trust in you.
3. Snuggle with him. Chihuahuas are very affectionate and like to cuddle. Sit on the sofa with a blanket and let it tunnel under the covers to it gets to your lap. Take a nap with him and let him sleep on your chest.
4. Take him places. Chihuahuas are true companion dogs. There is no place they would rather be than with their owner. Instead of leaving him at home, try taking your little buddy for a ride in the car. A short field trip to the local park would be the highlight of his day.
5. Hang out with him. Chihuahuas are happy whenever they are with their owners. Let him curl up on the couch with you while you watch television. He will nap at your feet while you surf the Internet. As long as your dog can be near you, it will be content.
6. Train him. Take your Chihuahua to obedience class. You and he will both be happier when he learns some basic commands and knows what behavior is expected of him. You will have a better behaved dog and he will enjoy pleasing his owner.
7. Give him a routine. Develop special rituals that are only shared between you and your Chihuahua. Give him a treat when you get home from work. Rub his belly as soon as you wake up in the morning. He will look forward to these little routines and may even remind you with a little bark if you should forget.
