Humane Society Adoption Laws Requiring Micro Chips In Texas

Ferrets are required to have microchip implants in El Paso, Texas, along with dogs and cats.

Many animal shelters and owners already implant microchips their pets. It is considered a safe and easy way to ensure that a pet, if lost, can be found and returned to the owner. In Texas, only the city of El Paso requires pets to have microchips.

Title 7

Title 7 is an El Paso city ordinance that is concerned with animals and was recently revised. Included in the revision, is that cats, dogs and ferrets are required to have microchips implants. The law also requires that these animals be vaccinated and registered.

Time Frame

Residents of El Paso have up to 30 days to register, vaccinate and microchip their pets. Non-residents have up 90 ninety days to comply with the requirements of Title 7, however anyone with a dog, cat or ferret, more than four months old, must vaccinate their pet for rabies if they are within the city limits for more than 10 days.

Reason

According to the City of El Paso, the requirements of Title 7 are for the benefit of everyone involved. Owners receive peace of mind (95 percent success rate), pets undergo a relatively cheap and painless procedure and the city saves money on housing, transporting and searching for pets on behalf of their owners.
