Put A Newborn Up For Adoption

Putting a newborn up for adoption is a gift for the new parents.

Deciding to put a newborn up for adoption can be a life-changing decision for you and the baby. The process of adoption is fairly simple, although difficulties can arise should you change your mind, or start feeling regretful during the process. If you decide to find new parents before the baby is born, begin researching adoption agencies as soon as possible to allow for a timely planning process. Prior to making the decision, be sure to consider all of your options and select a family that will provide the best lifestyle for your baby.

Instructions

1. Find a credible adoption agency about three to four months before your baby is born. Research multiple agencies, and interview each company individually to make sure their goals and values are similar to yours. Ask friends and family members if they have anyone that they can refer you to, whether it be an individual looking to adopt, or an agency. At this point, you will want to gain a full understanding of what it means to terminate your parental rights.

2. Verify that the agencies you are considering have a license. Call the state adoption agency and confirm that the licenses are current and that no major complaints have been filed.

3. Look through each agencies files for people who have been approved for adoption. Each agency should have photos of each family, their biological background, income, information on pets and other siblings and their age. If you have preferences for the type of family you are looking for, narrow out families who do not meet your needs.

4. Do background checks. As it gets closer to the adoption, and you start narrowing down your choices, verify that the adoption contenders do not have a criminal history.

5. Set up an appointment to meet the families in person. It's important to have an in-person interview with the potential parents because you may like a family on paper, but find that they are not what you are looking for once you begin speaking with them. If you would like to remain in the baby's life, be sure to discuss your plans at this point, and confirm that the parent's agree to allowing you to maintain a relationship.

6. Make a decision. Once you've feel that you have a full understanding of each family and you have come to an agreement, choose a family to adopt your newborn.
