Sponsor Endangered Animals

Sponsor an endangered species to help them survive.

Sponsoring an endangered animal is a way for people to support endangered species through monetary gifts. Zoos and other organizations which care for endangered animals rely on money from sponsors as well as grants and other forms of revenue. They use the money to feed animals, provide health care, conduct research, re-create natural habitats and breed the animals. Sponsoring an animal can also be fun, because it often includes special perks that vary depending on your level of sponsorship.

Instructions

1. Read about local endangered species as well as others in other places in the world to decide on an animal you want to sponsor. Endangered Species is one of many websites which maintain lists and descriptions of endangered species categorized by location.

2. Find an organization that allows sponsorships. Check with your local zoo first to find out what animals they have available for sponsors. There are other organizations that sponsor many or one specific animal. The World Wildlife Foundation is one example of a nonprofit organization which cares for endangered species such as eagles, pandas and tigers. The Audubon Society accepts donations for the preservation of birds and bird reserves all over the world. The Wildlife Conservation Society accepts animal sponsorship to save cheetahs, sea turtles and birds affected by oil spills.

3. Study the different levels and types of sponsorship that are available for your giving situation. Levels refers to how much money is required to sponsor an animal. Some sponsorship is simply interest-based. Sponsors receive information on the species through emails and mailings so they can help raise awareness. Low-level givers may receive a picture of the animal and occasional updates, while higher level givers may receive personal tours of the animal's habitats, zoo passes and larger pictures. Usually, the more money you give, the more benefits you receive. Often different types of sponsorships are available, including sponsoring a particular animal or a group.

4. Pay the money to the organization for the sponsorship level you wish to join. The sponsorship materials you receive will help you learn more about the species and keep up to date with conservation efforts. Renew your sponsorship annually as required.
