Animal control officers are enforcers of animal laws and ordinances in state and city government. Animal control officers are in charge of picking up stray or sick animals. Control officers also make investigations and arrests. They inspect environments and issue citations based on animal cruelty.
Experience
To become an animal control officer, you are required to have one year of paid experience maintaining or caring for wild or domestic animals.
Education Requirements
You are required to take and complete at least 12 semester credits or 18 quarter hours of college coursework related to animal care.
Field of Study
You are required to have coursework completed in animal science, animal management or administration of justice.
Additional Education
Additional education that animal control officers must have includes knowledge of CPR, euthanasia and restraint methods. Knowledge in law enforcement and animal laws are more helpful educational tools to learn.
