Dallas Anniversary Events

Dallas, Texas has some of the oldest and longest-running events in the state.

Dallas is one of the major cultural and economic centers of Texas. In the city, annual events and historical anniversaries have helped define the social landscape in one of the biggest cities in America. Residents and visitors of Dallas can enjoy a wide range of cultural events that commemorate historical and societal aspects of Dallas or Texas as a whole.

State Fair of Texas

The State Fair of Texas is one of the oldest events in the state. Dating back to 1886, this fair has served as a statewide and international exhibition. Exhibitions include a cattle show, livestock exhibitions, racing events and more. This event is one of the top events in Dallas and in Texas.

Red River Rivarly

Every college football season, the Red River Rivalry is the most anticipated event for many Texans. The Rivalry is between the University of Texas and the University of Oklahoma. To accommodate the incredible number of fans who want to watch this game, it is held in Cotton Bowl stadium in Dallas. Fans of both teams and football fans in general come from all over Oklahoma and Texas to see this match, which began back in 1900.

Candlelight

Candlelight is an annual education event at the Dallas Heritage Village. The Dallas Heritage Village recreates a 19th century Texan village. The Village holds events all year, but Candlelight, usually held on the second week of December, is a fun-filled and educational event for young children. The focus is to explore the holiday season through the eyes of 19th century Texas residents and to explore traditions contemporary Texans still perform during the holidays.

JFK Landmark

Not every anniversary or annual event is fun-filled. Dallas holds an anniversary of the assassination and death of John F. Kennedy each year. The landmark is at the Sixth Floor Museum, located at the Texas School Book Depository, which is the place from which Lee Harvey Oswald fired the fatal shots. Every Nov. 22, the museum holds special commemorations and honors Kennedy's legacy.
