What Is A Bichon

The Bichon Frise is an adorable little dog and excellent companion animal.


The Bichon Frise is a purebred dog resembling a cotton ball due to its curled coat. The American Kennel Club (AKC) said the breed must be white, but can have shades of buff, cream or apricot around his ears or body.


History


According to the AKC, the Bichon first appeared in the 13th century. It was traded by Spanish sailors and became a royal favorite in France in the 16th century.

Bichons are a playful, friendly breed.


The Bichon Frise is a member of the AKC's non-sporting group and was first recognized as a purebred dog in 1972.

The Bichon is friendly and gentle, but very playful. He is a good companion animal.


Size


Ideally, the Bichon stands between 9 1/2 to 11 1/2 inches tall at the shoulder.

Look into a Bichon's eyes and you should see alertness and inquisitiveness.


The Bichon should have black or dark brown eyes that are alert and inquisitive.
