Request Emergency Funds

A capital emergency such as a roof collapse or broken water heater may qualify your organization for emergency funds. While support is not guaranteed, many funding bodies such as the United Way and First Five Marin provide emergency funding to organization in danger of losing its ability to deliver core services. Application requirements vary by program and support may be limited to a maximum dollar amount.

Instructions

1. Determine eligibility. Many funding bodies have specific guidelines for emergency funds requests. For example, an event must threaten an organization's ability to deliver core services or meet budgeted expenses.

2. Fill out an emergency request form or application. Describe the emergency threatening your organization and explain the immediate negative effects a lack of funding will have on your organization.

3. Specify a support amount. Most programs limit funds requests to a maximum support level. Identify a timeline for the requested support.

4. Give the funding organization time to review your application. Depending on the source's policy, your organization may require a 30-day processing period. A committee or staff in that time will review your application and decide if it meets the required criteria for support.

5. Provide supporting documents. For example, you may need to attach proof of 501-c(3) non-profit status, a list of the members of the Board of Directors (including phone numbers) and letters of support.

6. Submit your application and supporting documents as directed. Common delivery options include the Internet, fax and mail.
