Congratulations for deciding to adopt a homeless dog rather than buy one. The Humane Society of the United States claims that over 25 percent of all dogs in shelters are purebred. Since toy poodles are so popular, there's a good chance that you will soon be able to find one up for adoption. The dog adoption process can take from a few days to a couple of years. This is to ensure that the dog will not be given back to the shelter, but will find a permanant home.
Instructions
1. Do research on toy poodles to be sure their personalities, grooming requirements and need for activity will fit in with your life and budget.
2. Ask your vet if there are any local toy poodle or poodle breed rescues in the area.
3. Contact your local animal shelter to see if you can be contacted when a toy poodle is brought in. They may also be able to recommend a poodle or toy poodle breed rescue.
4. Get your character reference letters, if the breed rescue requires it.
5. Wait for a shelter or breed rescue volunteer to contact you. They can set up an appointment to visit suitable dogs you may get along with or visit your home to check it out.
6. Take everyone in your family, including your other dogs, to visit the toy poodle you are thinking of adopting. You may or may not have to go through some interviews and more forms and contracts.
7. Pay the adoption fee. This is usually nonrefundable.
8. Bring the Toy Poodle home. Take the Toy Poodle to where you want him or her to toilet before bringing inside.
