Transport A Chihuahua

Transport a Chihuahua

Chihuahuas are a breed with a long and varied history. Originating in Mexico, the chihuahua has been a family companion for hundreds of years. The chihuahua is a very small and fragile breed, making transport a delicate procedure.

Instructions

1. Carry all of your chihuahua’s paperwork with you. Registration papers, vet records and microchip information are handy documents to have while traveling.

2. Prepare your crate ahead of time. The crate should have comfortable, waterproof bedding inside to avoid any problems while traveling. Be sure to attach travel-approved food and water containers to the crate in case of long-distance travel plans.

3. Place a collar and lead on your Chihuahua before placing him in the crate. You can remove the lead and attach it to the outside of the crate for quick retrieval of the dog.

4. Allow your Chihuahua time to use the bathroom before transport. Riding in a moving vehicle can cause your Chihuahua to make a mess, so allowing time to go before crating can avoid this problem.

5. Secure the crate in your vehicle. You need to place the crate in a safe spot and fasten it in so that it does not move during transit.

6. Fill the food and water dishes before placing your chihuahua in the crate. Fresh food and water can help calm your dog during the move.

7. Put your chihuahua in her kennel for the ride. Be sure to offer her a favorite treat or toy to make sure she is happy and comfortable during the ride.

8. Travel carefully and at a safe speed. Traveling with live animals can be difficult, so allowing yourself extra time and space is vital to safe travel.

9. Stop every three to four hours and allow your chihuahua out to potty and stretch his legs.

10. Check your dog thoroughly once you arrive at your destination. Make sure that he has not sustained any injuries during the ride. Praise and reward your chihuahua for a calm and quiet travel session once you are safely stopped.
