Make Bean Scarf Coolers To Wrap Around Your Neck

Anyone working in hot conditions would enjoy a neck cooler.

Neckbands filled with dried pinto or kidney beans, can be placed in a freezer, prior to use, for cooling, or in a microwave to heat them up for warming. These neckbands are cheap and easy to make, and would be a welcome gift for anyone you know that has to work in hot conditions, such as foundry workers or military personnel stationed in desert locations.

Instructions

1. Cut a piece of cotton fabric 9-inches wide by 22-inches long.

2. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise, with the right side of the fabric facing inwards.

3. Sew along one of the short ends and the long side to make a tube. Leave a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Sew over this line of stitching two or three times to make strong seams.

4. Turn the tube so the ride side of the fabric is facing out.

5. Fill the tube two-thirds full with dried beans.

6. Fold the open end in on itself, by approximately 1/2-inch. Sew this seam up securely.
