Raise awareness--and money--for your animal shelter by pampering the pooches in your community. Invite local dog owners to bring their furry friends to your shelter for a mini makeover. Set up plenty of plastic or metal baths, hoses, buckets and dog-friendly shampoo and enlist your shelter volunteers to bathe the dogs. Place donation jars around the room and offer to give pet owners tours of the shelter while their pets get pampered. This tour can be an effective fundraising tool by showing the pets in need to animal lovers who may be moved to make donations. Besides, they get to take home a clean, happy dog. You can also offer grooming or nail trimmings to attract more potential donors.
Fundraising Walk
Engage the animal lovers in your community and bring them together for a worthy cause at a fundraising walk. Unlike other fundraising walks, this one lets pet owners get some exercise with their pets. Choose a short course, less than a mile, for pets and their owners. Create pledge forms for participants to distribute to family, friends and coworkers for pledge donations in support of their walk. The donations can go directly to your animal shelter to fund either upcoming programs or the general operating costs of the shelter. Network with local businesses for donations. A local deli may be willing to provide snacks for participants to enjoy after the walk, or a pet store could give gift bags to the furry participants.
Parade of Adoptable Pets
Raise money for your animal shelter and find homes for needy pets all at once by hosting a parade of adoptable pets. You can host this event at the shelter. Transform your parking lot into a viewing area and add a runway flanked by chairs down the middle of the space. Let attendees grab a seat and watch as adoptable pets walk down the runway with a shelter volunteer. This raises awareness of the pets in need, and a few attendees may just take a pet home. Sell inexpensive tickets to the event. Charge between $1 and $5 per person to raise money. In addition to the parade of adoptable pets, provide live entertainment. Encourage local entertainers to promote themselves by performing at no charge for a worthy cause, hopefully attracting even more guests to your fundraiser.
