Find An Adopted Child Born In Kansas City Kansas

Finding a child given up for adoption is often an exciting experience.

The state of Kansas has specific laws and regulations regarding the release of information about an adopted child to a birth parent. Information about adoptions completed in Kansas City, including contact information for an adopted child, may only be released through compliance with state laws and with the permission of your birth child.

Instructions

1. Determine the age of your child. Under Kansas law, identifying information about your child cannot be released until she is 18 years old. You may not request a search be performed to find your child until that time.

2. Complete the "Birth Parent Requesting Contact with Adult Adoptee" form. The form is available through the Kansas Department of Heath and Rehabilitation Services. You must provide your name, telephone number and address, your relationship to the adopted child and the child's date of birth. Information including the place of birth, names of the adopted child and birth mother at the time of birth and the name of the adoption agency involved in the birth are also requested, if known.

3. Gather all accompanying documentation. Along with the contact request form, you must complete and have notarized, the "Authorization to Release Information Form," acknowledging your consent to having your identifying information shared with your birth child. You must also provide proof of identity in the form of a copy of your driver's license or birth certificate with your request.

4. Mail your request and accompanying information to the Kansas Department of Health and Rehabilitation Services' Children and Family Service Office at:

Docking State Office Bldg., 5th Floor

915 SW Harrison Street

Topeka, KS 66612

5. Receive the results of your search. Once the state has received your request, an attempt is made to contact your birth child to determine if he is interested in making contact. Once the search for your child has been completed, the state will notify you of the results.
