have difficulty digesting food after weaning.
Some puppies have difficulty adjusting to solid foods after weaning. Others have a food intolerance for preservatives, dyes and contaminants. Some puppies eat their food too fast, causing indigestion, while others may simply be reacting to stressful environments. Much like adults, puppies will show signs that they are having difficulty digesting meals. Vomiting, grass eating, diarrhea, a loss of appetite and a lack of energy are signs that a puppy has a sensitive stomach. If symptoms persist or get worse, seek the help of a veterinarian.
Instructions
1. Stop feeding the puppy the food that made it sick. If the puppy receives multiple food types, identify which food caused the problem, and eliminate it from any future meal.
2. Deduce which food makes your dog sick by eliminating a food item each meal until the dog no longer has a reaction.
3. Allow the dog to consume water but no food for 12 hours. Observe the puppy to ensure it doesn't eat.
4. Give the dog an oral re-hydration supplement such as Pedialyte to ensure that it doesn't lose too much water during its fast.
5. Give the puppy a spoonful of yogurt. Yogurt has bacteria that are beneficial to restoring healthy digestion.
6. Add meat, preferably boiled chicken without the skin, to a rice mixture. Observe whether the puppy continues to have symptoms of an upset stomach. If not, it is ready to eat more solid foods.
7. Give the puppy three or four smaller meals as opposed to larger ones. Try mixing water to further soften the food until the puppy no longer has symptoms.
8. Reintroduce regular diet.
