Seed Bead Ideas

Throughout the centuries, beading has been used to embellish a variety of items from gowns to pillows. With a little imagination and a few simple techniques, beads can be used to enhance your pets' clothing, home decor projects, human clothing and jewelry. The projects are limitless and there are many free patterns with instructions on the Internet. There are also many books and magazines that can be purchased in craft or fabric stores.

Project Decisions

Before starting any project, its necessary to have a design in mind and the colors and size of beads to be used. A simple design drawn on paper and colored with markers or crayons will help with the placement of the beads. Using a chalk pencil, a design can be drawn onto any surface. This idea is perfect for decorating boxes or clothes or even for embellishing curtains.

Quick & Easy

Seed beads come in different sizes, and a mixture of bead sizes will enhance any design. The larger the beads, the less time it takes to cover a surface. For instance, a flower design could use more than one size of seed bead. The center could have large seed beads while the petals could be made up of medium-sized beads. The smallest seed beads could be used for leaves.

Placing Effects

Seed beads can be sewn in place or glued on. There are a few brands of fabric glue that holds fast when washed, making the addition of beads and embellishments sturdy. Fabric glue is available at craft stores or sewing shops. Background surface colors can be used to offset the seed beads of choice. If the surface is an unpainted piece of wood, paint the surface with a color that will enhance the beads. Using tweezers helps with placement of the beads. Keep the seed beads in small containers so they don't wander.
