Miami is a great place to study.
Miami, Florida is home to several well-regarded institutions of higher education, with a wide variety of programs to choose from, including the private University of Miami, established in 1925, and Florida International University, a member of the Florida State University system. Miami also boasts Miami Dade College, a school that began awarding four-year degrees in 2003 and was promoted from community college status. A number of private, for-profit schools also operate campuses in Miami.
University of Miami
The University of Miami is the oldest institution of higher education in Miami, and currently offers over 180 programs to more than 15,000 students. Well-known as a research institution, the University of Miami invests over $360 million in research activities per year. The campus is situated in Coral Gables, and offers Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degrees.
Florida International University
Florida International University serves over 44,000 students on several campuses in and around Miami. FIU enjoyed significant growth in the first decade of the 21st century, and established a medical school in 2009. Almost half of the students at FIU receive financial aid, and the demographic makeup of the school reflects Miami's diverse population.
Miami Dade College
Miami Dade College, formerly Miami Dade Community College, serves over 170,000 students on eight campuses and satellite locations, making it the largest institution of higher education in the country. Miami Dade College offers an exceptionally wide variety of Associate's degree programs and certificates in many vocational fields.
For-Profit Private Schools
Miami is also home to a number of smaller for-profit, private schools, many of them campuses of larger nationwide schools. Prominent private schools in Miami include City College, Brown Mackie College, and the University of Phoenix.
