Start A Nonprofit Pet Rescue In South Carolina

Anyone who lives in South Carolina is well aware of how many homeless pets there are. The pet population would continue to get out of control if not for the many pet rescues in the state. Making the decision to start a non-profit pet rescue is a noble but difficult task to undertake. Learn what is needed to start a non-profit pet rescue in the state of South Carolina.

Instructions

Instructions

1. Find a good attorney. An attorney can make sure everything you are considering would be legal in the state of South Carolina. You would not want to put time and energy into this wonderful undertaking only to find out that the state does not allow something and you would again have to begin from scratch. An attorney will also advise you how you can apply for non-profit status in South Carolina.

2. Decide where your rescue will be located. Will you start this up in your home or will you find a remote location to take in rescues from? How many animals can this area hold? Will it need to have divided areas for smaller animals? Young animals? Special-needs animals? Will you also accept animals with behavioral difficulties? All these points must be taken into consideration before proceeding.

3. Research and plan. This is a something that you must be extremely committed to and cannot take on half-heartedly. Where will your funds come from? How much will it cost to house, feed and care for these rescues? You will need comparative costs for these items so you know how much money you will need to bring into your rescue to cover these necessities. Now is the time to sit down and create a financial plan.

4. Find help. Though you may feel that you can do this alone, once word starts spreading about your rescue, no doubt your phones will start ringing with calls for animal placements. Place small free ads in local South Carolina newspapers looking for volunteers. Join local online groups announcing the opening of your facility and ask for volunteers. Start putting up signs in your area or signs near local schools and businesses as well requesting volunteer help.

5. Locate a veterinarian. This is an extremely important task as you will need this doctor for emergency care as well as routine care of your rescues. Ask South Carolina veterinarians if they will donate their time, but you will still need to be choosy on the ones that you decide to work with. You will want doctors that are knowledgeable in the pets that you have chosen to rescue. Interview a few of them and then decide who you are the most comfortable working with.

6. Prepare your paperwork. You will need to draft both an adoption contract and an adoption application. You will want to make sure that you find the best homes possible for the animals that you choose to take in. Your adoption contract will lay out in simple terms what is expected of adopters after they leave with their new family member. Your adoption application should give you enough information to allow you to feel comfortable with releasing an animal to an interested adopter. You may also want your attorney to look it over to make sure that all laws in South Carolina are being followed as well.

7. Begin to fund-raise. Talk to local merchants to ask if they would be interested in donating food, supplies or even monetary gifts as well. Also consider fund-raising events to promote awareness and to raise funds needed to keep your rescue project afloat. Some ideas include silent auctions, spaghetti dinners, dances, garage and yard sales. Possibilities for fund-raising are endless and can also be a lot of fun while still helping out your worthy cause.

8. Decide to open the doors to your pet rescue. You will begin accepting pets and looking for new homes for them. You can see what you may need to revamp and change in the coming months. Alhough it was far from an easy task and will continue to be hard work, it will definitely be a rewarding and positive experience for all those involved.

Feed A Baby Skunk

Babies need special attention and have special dietary needs. Baby skunks are no exception. Here is feed a pet baby skunk.

Instructions

1. Feed the baby specialized formula through a bottle (like an infant) if away from its mother or allow it to feed from its mother for the first four weeks. Like human baby formula, skunk formula is specially created to meet the specific needs of a newborn skunk.

2. Chop up corn, peas, squash, mushrooms, and a few fruits into very small pieces. Place in a shallow dish and allow the baby skunk to eat four times a day, as much as it can take in. Four weeks to eight weeks is a time of great growth and the baby needs all the nutrients it can get.

3. Feed three times a day when the skunk reaches two months old. During this following month feed three meals according to a typical human eating schedule (breakfast, lunch and dinner). For breakfast give it a few slices of vegetables, an orange slice, a spoonful or two of cottage cheese and three or four pieces of dog food. Lunch should consist of some more dog food, yogurt, dry wheat cereal and vegetables. Dinner is a few more pieces of dog food, vegetables, a vanilla wafer or other sweet treat and a tablespoon of starch (rice, pasta, etc).

4. Cut the meals down to two a day after three months of age. Then after another month or so limit their intake to about 15 calories per pound of body weight. Obesity in skunks is a big problem.

5. Keep all food securely stored away from reach. Skunks will search for food as if they were in the wild and may get their claws on something they shouldn't have. Protect the skunk by storing food away securely.

Get Your Sims Mailbox Back

Players delete the mailbox in both the Sims and the Sims 2 to avoid paying bills. Deleting the mailbox can cause game play issues. In the Sims 2, the Repoman comes if you don't pay the bills. Programs exist that allow users to download a new mailbox, but those may not work. The best way to restore the mailbox is to move the Sim family out of the house. The lot may have to be deleted. If you play the Sims 2, you can put any important items in the Sims inventory to move to the next lot.

Instructions

1. Go to the 'Neighborhood' view if you aren't already there.

2. Click on the move out button.

3. Click on the house to move the family out.

4. The family loads into the family menu at the bottom of the screen.

5. Click on the empty house. With no family inside, the lot loads in build mode. If the mailbox hasn't reappeared, exit back to the neighborhood screen and delete the lot.

6. Move the family back into a lot. The mailbox will be there.

Identify A Black And Tan Coonhound

Identify a Black and Tan Coonhound

The easy and graceful stride of the black and tan coonhound gives this hound a long reach in the front, coupled with plenty of drive from behind. When the coonhound is in action, it carries both it's head and tail proudly. This breed’s temperament is outgoing and friendly. It must be able to work with other hounds in close proximity, so it cannot be shy, nor can it be dog- or people-aggressive.

Instructions

1. Look at the general appearance of the black and tan coonhound. This is a working breed and it can withstand cold winters and hot summers. The breed characteristics give this dog the ability to hunt for deer, mountain lion, bear and other game. The male dog should measure 25 to 27 inches at the shoulder, and females measure 23 to 25 inches. It should have moderate bone structure and good muscle tone. The length of the body is equal to, or may be slightly longer than the dog is high (at the shoulders).

2. Make sure the head is cleanly modeled. The measurement from the back of the skull to the nose should be about 9 to 10 inches in males and 8 to 9 inches in females. The breed should have an alert expression and always be friendly. The skin should not have any folds. The nose should be black and well open. The eyes can be hazel to dark brown and should be almost round. The ears are set low and hang in folds. If held out toward the nose, they should extend past the nose. The muscular neck should be of medium length and should have no excess dewlap. The chest should reach at least as far as the elbows. The tail should be based a bit below the level of the backline and is carried free when in motion.

3. Notice the powerfully constructed shoulders. The front legs should be straight and the elbows should not turn in or out. The feet are compact and have arched toes and thick, strong pads. The feet should not be flat or splayed. The muscular hindquarters should be well-boned. The stifles and hocks will be bent, but do not incline in or out. The hind feet are set back from under the body when the dog is standing on a level surface. This breed should not have rear dewclaws.

4. Notice that the coat is short and dense. The color is coal black and the rich tan markings can be found above the eyes, on the sides of the muzzle, the chest, legs and breeching. There should be black pencil markings on the toes. This breed should have not white on its chest or other parts of the body.

Organize A Baby Room While Waiting To Adopt

Care Bear Theme Baby Nursery

Organizing a room for a baby is one way expecting parents curb their anxiety and survive the wait to adopt. Waiting for a pregnant woman to choose your family and then waiting for the baby to be born are stressful times for families waiting to adopt. Your family may have waited several months or even years to be chosen to adopt a baby. Even then you may wonder, "What if, she changes her mind when the baby is born?" Organizing the baby's room can be therapeutic, taking your mind off of what might happen. How do you organize a baby room while waiting to adopt? Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Leave enough open space to allow you to move easily around the baby's room as you organize it. You may be tempted to purchase too many items for the baby while waiting to adopt. Remember you will be carrying your baby, sometimes in the dark, and you do not want to trip over or run into furniture.

2. Purchase a dresser that can double as a diaper changing area to minimize the pieces of furniture in the room. Some infant dressers come with a changing pad and straps already attached to help prevent baby from falling. Place diapers, wipes, clean T-shirts or pajamas, and clean receiving blankets in the top drawer to deal quickly with dirty diapers and spit-up.

3. Place a comfortable rocking chair near the baby's crib. Nighttime feedings in the quiet dimly lit bedroom will help baby return to sleep faster and allow you to be comfortable.

4. Find a small table to set next to your rocking chair. Consider keeping your baby milestone book there to enter new accomplishments at the end of the day. Place a lamp on the table that can be dimmed during nighttime feedings, or while rocking a fussy baby. You can also set bottles on it while burping your baby.

5. Choose window curtains that are thick enough to prevent unwanted light from coming into the baby room and help reduce noise. Use layers of curtains if necessary to accommodate your choice of fabric. Simple measures can help your baby develop good sleeping patterns early in life.

Save Endangered Orangutans

Endangered orangutans live on two islands, Sumatra and Borneo, in Asia. Some estimates suggest that orangutans could become extinct within the next decade or two. Threats to their survival include habitat loss and illegal pet trade. Their slow reproduction rates also contribute to the problem.

Instructions

1. Adopt an orangutan by providing money for his care. The Orangutan Foundation International, for example, offers individuals, families and schools the opportunity to assist in their conservation efforts by "adopting" an orphaned young animal. You'll often receive photos and news about the animal you choose to adopt.

2. Purchase recycled paper and products made from sustainable timber. Habitat destruction continues to put orangutans in danger. Because eco-labeling can be inconsistent, it's best to not to purchase any type of tropical hardwood to avoid supporting rainforest destruction.

3. Take an eco-tour to see orangutans. Some organizations offer you the chance to visit and assist refuges. You can help do research on wild orangutans, assist with daily caretaking at the wildlife refuge or simply observe the animals. Creating an environment that makes orangutan survival profitable will help governments and businesses take action.

4. Buy only sustainable palm oil or products using sustainable palm oil. Conversion of habitats to palm oil plantations has happened across the great ape's habitat. Owners of the plantations clear-cut lowland rainforests, leaving no habitat. Many plantations consider orangutans wildlife pests and kill them when given the chance.

5. Support zoos and other organizations who sponsor breeding and research programs. Visit the zoos, donate money to the programs and support community education initiatives. Captive breeding programs may help sustain the species and research can help experts come up with new conservation strategies.

6. Hold a fundraiser with the donations going to orangutans. Donate the money to one of the conservation organizations and use the occasion to educate others about what they can do to help save endangered orangutans.

House Train A Puppy Mill Breeder Dog

Puppy mill breeder dogs are often kept in small cages for their entire lives.

Rescuing a puppy mill breeder dog is a challenge, especially if the dog has lived in a small cage at the puppy mill for its entire life. These dogs can be extremely fearful of their new environment, including the outdoors. Housetraining an adult dog that's lived in a cage can be a long process. Don't ever punish the dog when it has an accident. Instead, give it a special treat as a reward when it goes in the right place.

Instructions

1. Provide the dog with a crate to allow it to feel secure. Place the crate in a small, quiet room or space, and confine the dog to that area of the house. Leave the door of the crate open so the dog can leave its bed to relieve itself in another area of the room. Cover the entire floor with potty pads so you can clean it easily when the dog has an accident. As the dog's training progresses and it becomes more consistent, you can reduce the area covered with pads.

2. Anticipate the times when the dog needs to relieve itself and take it outside to a specific area if it's not too fearful of the outdoors. If it's too fearful at first to take it outside, wait to see if the dog chooses an area of its space to relieve itself. If the dog doesn't choose an area outside its crate, pick one and take the dog to that area every few hours.

3. Praise the dog and give it a special treat such as a small piece of cheese or meat whenever it uses the designated area to relieve itself, whether the space is outdoors or indoors. Reserve the special treat for this accomplishment so the dog learns to associate the reward with going in the right place.

4. Take the dog to different rooms in the house or outdoors for short periods of time before returning it to its own space. This will introduce a fearful dog to different sights and sounds gradually and is also a way to introduce it to walking on a leash. If the dog begins to sniff or circle, or starts to pass waste in the wrong place, attempt to move the dog to the designated area. If it is too late to move the dog, clean up the mess and do not punish the dog.

Is Monthly Rent Tax Deductible

Rent may be deductible if you have a home office or business.

Not only is rent tax-deductible, but indirect expenses for the upkeep of the home are deductible as well. These expenses include utilities like gas, electric and water, renter and equipment insurance, and garbage and cleaning services. It is important to keep records, statements, figures used for calculating area, receipts and other supporting documentation to substantiate claims for deductions.

Business Functions

If you meet patients, clients or customers, carry out administrative and managerial tasks, or store inventory at your own home, you may deduct rental and household business expenses. Administrative and management duties include bookkeeping, record keeping, billing, ordering supplies, setting up appointments and writing reports.

Considerations

If you are self-employed, use Form 8829, Expenses for Business Use of Your Home. If you work for an employer, you may need to file Form 2106, Unreimbursed Business Expenses, and itemize these deductions on Form 1040 Schedule A, for any amount exceeding 2% of your adjusted gross income. You cannot deduct personal expenses. For daycare facilities, unless exempt, you must have a state-approved license and certifications and meet state and local laws in your area.

Limitations

With the exception of inventory storage and daycare facilities, the area must be used exclusively for business. All areas must be used regularly for business; you must have no other location to conduct business. The business portion of rent must be prorated according to the total living area, calculated by dividing business square feet by total area. For daycare, the area is further prorated according to the time it is used for business, by dividing hours the area is used for day care over the total number of hours per year.

Facilities

Rent paid on facilities where you conduct business as well as taxes paid on leased property are tax-deductible as rent. This includes leasing retail, office and manufacturing space. Rent and and leases paid on facilities are not normally prorated.

Example: Home Office and Storage

You rent a 2000-square-foot house. You use an entire 120-square-foot room to store inventory and use a, 80-square-foot portion of your family room as an office. You use 200 square feet, or 10% of the home, for business use -- 200/2000. The monthly bills include rent of $700, utilities of $200, insurance of $50 and garbage service of $50. The rent and indirect expenses total $12,000 per year; so you can take a $1,200 deduction for business expenses for your home -- $840 for rent and $360 for utilities and insurance.

Example: Daycare Facility

You rent for a daycare business, using the kitchen, living room, dining room and a bedroom. The annual cost of rent and indirect expenses is $12,000 The total area is 800 square feet; it is used 10 hours per day, five days per week. The percentage of area you use for business is 40%. The rooms are used 29.7% of the time -- 2,600 hours/8,760 hours in a year. Multiply the area by the time it is used: 40% X $29.7% = 11.88%. The total deduction for daycare use of your home is $12,000 x 0.1188 = $1,425.60.

Take Care Of Your Pug

Livin' the Pug life

Taking care of a living being is a tough task, but Pugs tend to be a little more difficult. A lot of special care and needs tend to come along with some of our pugly friends so I'm going to include some tips on care and some things to look for that could be wrong.

Instructions

1. Your first step is to simply show your Pug some love. They are very caring and affectionate. Taking care of your Pug always has to start with a lot of attention being paid towards them. A Pug is generally underfoot a lot, great lap dogs and happy to be with you no matter what it is you doing. So give them the love they need and deserve.

2. Those cute little wrinkles that everybody loves so much are not that much fun for you Pug. Those wrinkles must be cleaned out to keep moisture from building up that could ultimately cause an infection. Taking a baby wipe and cleaning out the folds every month or so is a good idea. When food is involved you have to keep your Pug on a good diet. They will eat anything and everything if given the chance. Two cups of food a day with a few yummy treats in between is good. Those cute little fat Pugs are not healthy Pugs.

3. Watch your Pugs overheating. I can't stress this enough. Pugs have no way of regulating their body temperature so you must be very careful. Never leave a your companion home during the summer without a cool room or air conditioning. If they are out in the heat make sure they have plenty of water.

4. Next it is good to be aware of the health issues Pugs tend to face. Eye problems such as dry eye syndrome are common among others. Tracheal collapse is one of a few different types of breathing problems that can occur. On top of this their legs and knees can be vulnerable to problems. Along with those issues obesity, back problems and skin allergies are common.

Once the baby animals grow up, they can be sent to the "Petz Talent Show" game, where they continue to grow and learn tricks. The "Family" games in the series allow players to raise multiple pets, breeding animals to create new breeds.

"SimAnimals"

Made by Electric Arts, creator of "The Sims" series, "SimAnimals" puts the player in charge of an entire forest of creatures. Maintaining a stable environment is necessary to keep the animals healthy and happy, and players undergo challenges and discover secrets as they explore, unlocking new areas of the forest. "SimAnimals" features North American wildlife, while "SimAnimals Africa" includes elephants, zebras and other species native to Africa.

"Animal Crossing: Wild World"

"Wild World" is set in a virtual town populated by animal creatures. As a new resident, the player buys a house and has to find a way to pay off the mortgage. The player performs chores such as collecting and selling fruit and fish and running errands for the other inhabitants. "Animal Crossing: Wild World" is set in real time, with days passing and seasons changing according to the outside world. With holidays and special events occurring from time to time, "Wild World" provides constantly changing game experiences.

"Viva Pinata: Pocket Paradise"

In "Pocket Paradise," players tend to a garden whose flowers and trees attract snack-themed animal pinatas such as mousemallows and buzzlegums. Some pinata species will not get along, so players have to manage their gardens to prevent pinatas from fighting. "Pocket Paradise" has more than 60 different pinata species that players can "romance" to produce offspring.

Information About Animal Abuse

Animal abuse is not only wrong, it is agains the law

Animal abuse comes in all forms, from physical abuse to simple neglect. Both intentional/malicious abuse and neglect or passive abuse may be tough to spot as laws defining what constitutes animal abuse can be vague and differ from municipality to municipality. Before you report abuse, you must evaluate the entire situation to determine whether or not abuse is actually occurring.

Legal Definition

The legal definition of animal abuse differs from state to state; however the sentiment is the same. Acording to the Sequoia Humane Sociey, any person found to have intentionally overworked, tortured, tormented or wounded any living animal is in violation of the state's animal cruelty laws. The laws also extend to anyone who knowingly or neglectfully deprives an animal of adequate food, water or shelter. Persons are also prohibited from cruelly beating, mutilating or killing an animal.

These crimes, depending on the state, are punishable as either a misdemeanor or a felony, based on the severity of the infraction. Owners of animals raised for fighting as well as any spectator to such as event are also in violation of these laws. Lastly, the abandonment of animals is also a crime and is covered under animal cruelty laws.

Reocgnizing Abuse

Recognizing abuse can be tough. Some situations may appear to be abusive, though are not actually breaking any laws. The ASPCA has outlined some guidelines that help individuals spot abuse. Acording to the ASPAC, some physical signs of abuse to looks for include wearing a collar that is too tight and either injures the dog or prevents adequate respiration, having untreated, open wounds, being emaciated, having signs of untreated parasitic infection including hair loss, skin infections and unexplained lumps under the skin, limping, or visible confirmation of hitting or physical violence against the animal. The living conditions in which an animal resides can also call attention to abuse. Dirty and unsanitary conditions or a lack of adequate food, water or shelter can indicate abuse is taking place.

Reporting Abuse

Reporting animal cruelty is important, not only to the animal in question, but animal cruelty has been definitively linked to other violent acts within the family structure and within society. If you suspect an owner of committing abuse against an animal, do not confront the owner yourself. Contact the local humane society or local law enforcement. This protects you and the animal in question, but also allows for a thorough investigation, which is the key to successful prosecution.

Preventing Abuse

Preventing animal abuse is the key. You can file a report of animal abuse with either your local humane society organization or with local law enforement officials. The ASPCA recommends that when you make a report of animal abuse, provide as much detail as possible, as this will be the starting point for any investigation. Keep detailed and accurate descriptions of what you witness. Talk to your kids about the proper way to treat animals from a very young age and set a good example for them.

Potential

There has been a stong link established between animal abuse and domestic abuse over the years. As a matter of fact, the ASPCA reports that in 88 percent of the homes in New Jersey that have reported instances of child abuse, animal abuse has also occurred. In the same report, Wisconsin women that have experienced spousal abuse have indicated that in four out of five cases, the batterer had also been phycially abusive toward pets and farm animals. Similar statistics characterize all 50 states.

Pet Adoption In Oklahoma

Oklahoma offers many animal adoption shelters.

There are many places to adopt a pet in the state of Oklahoma. While the adoption fees vary from place to place, most shelters vaccinate, spray or neuter a pet before adoptions. Some places are more lenient on the adoption screening of potential owners, while other shelters have a rigorous screening that a person must pass before being allowed to adopt.

Best Friends of Pets

Founded in 1994, Best Friends of Pets was originally known as Best Friends of the Oklahoma City Animal Welfare Division and services the metro Oklahoma City area. Each month, Best Friends of Pets works with other rescue groups to find homes for homeless animals through their outreach program held at the local PetSmart. All animals are vaccinated and spayed or neutered before adoption. The fee for adoption starts at $65 as of 2010.

Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals

Located in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, the Washington County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (WCSPCA) is an open-access shelter. This means it welcomes any animal no matter their age, health or behavior. The WCSPCA neuters or spay the animals before adoptions. Potential owners must be 18 years old and must fill out an application for adoption. The potential owner will be interviewed by a representative of the WCSPCA. The adoption cost as of 2010 varies from animal to animal, ranging from $65 to $350, but includes all medical vaccinations and deworming.

Free to Live

Free to Live is the largest no-kill shelter in Oklahoma that takes in stray and mistreated cats and dogs. All animals are spayed or neutered and given all necessary vaccinations. They also receive a thorough physical examination. Potential owners are screened to verify they are a good candidate for owning a pet. Persons wishing to adopt a dog must have a fenced yard or they will be declined. Free to Live requests a $60 donation as a fee for adoption. It offers a no-questions-asked return policy. If at any time the owner no longer wishes to keep the pet, he can return the pet to the shelter.

Oklahoma City Animal Shelter

Animals may also be adopted through the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter. Dogs and cats can be adopted for $50 as of 2010. The shelters offers a special $25 fee for certain animals. If the animal has been up for adoption for 14 days without finding a home, the price will be lowered. Also, if a potential owner wants to adopt two or more pets, the price will be lowered to $25 each. Other reasons for the discounted price include pets that are over 4 years old and pets with medical conditions. Anyone who adopts a dog through the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter can take four free obedience classes taught by the Oklahoma Dog Obedience Training Club.

Altus Animal Aid

Located in Altus, Oklahoma, Altus Animal Aid is a nonprofit animal rescue. The adoption center is a no-kill zone. A potential adopter must first fill out a pre-adoption form that asks for your name, address and why you want to adopt a pet. Two references are also requested. Altus will do a background check with the local Animal Control and your current or past veterinarian. If you pass the initial screening, then an animal may be adopted. Dogs are adopted for a $75 fee, while cats cost $55 as of 2010.

Donate Dog Food To Shelters In Atlanta Georgia

You can provide food for dogs without a home, courtesy of food banks and shelters.

According to the ASPCA, about 5 million to 7 million companion animals enter animal shelters each year. Some are traditional shelters, while others are private, "no-kill" shelters that depend on the generosity of volunteers to provide the basic needs for these homeless animals. Atlanta has several shelters and rescues that could benefit from your generosity, and your options range from donating money online to dropping off food in various locations in the city. You can even donate through an Amazon.com wish list.

Instructions

1. Drop food off at handy locations. Save Our Pets Food Bank provides drop-boxes in various stores, such as Highland Pet Supply and Barking Hound Village locations. A happy dog face adorns the boxes, where you can deposit pet food and treats that the food bank will get to animals in need. This includes those in shelters or with foster families, or those whose owners need a little help providing for their pets.

Pros & Cons Of Foster Parenting

Bringing a foster child into your home can sometimes cause strife.

Foster parents open up their homes for children in need who've ended up in the foster care system for a wide range of reasons, including criminal activities by their parents, parents who pass away, or other family strife leading to them being taken from their homes. There are many pros and cons to consider before opening up your home to foster children.

Pro: Helping Others

Foster parenting is a way to help others. Taking care of these "homeless" children can help families get back on their feet, and it also provides children with their basic needs, as well as something they may never have had before: a stable environment. Children in the foster care system often need special care because they've experienced instability and perhaps even trauma. Foster parents can help children work through problems they might have in their previous home environment.

Pro: Bonding with Children

Bonding with the foster children often occurs after families bring them into their home, with foster parents becoming attached to their foster children over time. The emotional bond that occurs between foster children and foster families can last a lifetime, and be beneficial for everyone involved.

Con: Separation Issues

While there are some children who remain in the foster care system until they reach 18, Foster Care Adoption points out that nearly 50% of children in foster care are eventually reunited with their families. This can result in sadness on the part of the foster family due to being separated from children with whom they've bonded. Depending on the state, location and the case worker for the foster child, foster parents might or might not be adequately prepared for the separation.

Con: Strain on Family

Bringing a foster child into your home can result in a strain on your family that can manifest in both emotional strains, due to stress of raising a possibly troubled child and dealing with behavioral problems, and financial strain, if you find yourself having to spend a lot over the compensation provided to adequately take care of the child's needs. Additionally, there's potential for problems in families with children. Depending on the age of the foster parent's children, they may have rivalries or feel ignored or jealous of the attention given to the foster child.

Pro and Con: Money

Families who open their homes for foster children are given some money for the care of the children, but money is both a pro and a con. It's a pro because you receive some money for bringing a child into your home, but it's a con since the funds usually don't cover the cost of caring for the child. Money shouldn't be the main consideration or reason for bringing a foster child into the home.

Disadvantage Of Neutering A Male Dog

Neutering puppies too young can limit their growth potential.

Neutering pets is a highly recommended practice by veterinarians. Most advise neutering a pet before he is 6 months of age. While neutering a male dog has clear advantages, disadvantages exist as well. Some of the disadvantages of neutering a male dog are attributed more to neutering timing than to neutering.

Working Dog Drive

Ed Frawley, a German Shepherd breeder and trainer, states on the Leerburg Video and Kennel website: "I do not believe that any dog that is being used for personal protection, police service work or Schutzhund should be neutered (unless they are a monorchid). I may be wrong but I don't think any working dog should be neutered without a medical reason." Neutering can reduce the drive a working male dog needs to be trained.

Obesity

On average, neutered male dogs are more obese than their non-neutered counterparts. Obesity seems to be linked to an increased appetite as opposed to metabolic changes.

Allergies

Adverse vaccine reactions and allergies have been found to happen 27 percent more often in neutered male dogs. The theory is that by neutering a male before maturity, the sex hormones do not get a chance to form the immune system properly.

Cancer

While neutering a male dog has been shown to reduce the risks of prostate cancer, neutering before the age of 1 year doubles the risk of osteosarcoma (bone cancer). Specifically, larger breed males that are neutered before the age of 1 year are more prone to acquire osteosarcoma than dogs neutered after the age of 1 year.

Joints

Canines, males and females alike, neutered before 6 months of age have been found to have twice the risk of hip dysplasia and cranial cruciate ligament injuries compared to dogs neutered after 6 months of age.

The History Of Rottweiler Dogs

The Rottweiler is a large-sized dog. It is intelligent and loyal. Although the breed has received some negative attention in regard to attacks on humans, it is still one of the most popular breeds in the United States. The temperament of the Rottweiler is largely influenced by its training. If trained properly, they can be quite gentle dogs.

Origins

The Rottweiler breed has an ancient lineage that dates back to the Roman Empire. The Romans used the breed for herding sheep and cattle. The Rottweiler was one of the original breeds used as herd dogs.

Modern Origins

The modern breed of Rottweiler was developed in Germany. The Germans also used the breed as herd dogs and as beasts of burden to pull carts hauling goods and supplies.

Guard Dogs

During World Wars I and II, Rottweilers were used as guard dogs. The breed is often employed in the service of guard and police dogs.

Arrival in the U.S.

German breeders brought the Rottweiler to the United States in 1928. In 1931, the breed was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club.

Significance

Rottweilers are generally easy to train, as they are eager to please their human companions. They are highly adaptable dogs but need socialization and daily exercise for overall mental and physical health.

Warning

Although Rottweilers are good family dogs, they are not recommended for households with children aged five or younger. These large, powerful dogs may accidentally knock a child down and injury could occur. They can be dominant dogs that need proper training.

Dogs That Look Like Chihuahuas

Chihuahuas have large, bat-like ears.

Chihuahuas, named for the state in Mexico from which they are thought to originate, are a very small dog breed whose body length is longer than it is tall. Chihuahuas do not average more than 3 to 6 lbs. in weight as adults, and as such are very popular pets in urban areas and for residents of small dwellings. With their large, bat-like ears, round, inky eyes, and short snouts, chihuahuas have a very distinct look. Other dog breeds do, however, share certain aspects of the chihuahua's appearance.

Miniature or Toy Dogs

The Chihuahua is a miniature-sized dog. These small breeds are characterized by an adult body weight of not more than 10 lbs. Other miniature dog breeds have a similar compact build, including the pomeranian, which also has large and dark eyes; the miniature schnauzer; and the toy poodle. Miniature or toy dogs tend to have an energetic temperament and get along better with older children and adults than with toddlers or little kids.

Pointy-Eared Dogs

A defining characteristic of the Chihuahua's appearance are its pointy ears that are disproportionately large for its small head. Other dog breeds with particularly pointy ears include the Boston terrier, a similarly-sized small dog breed with short hair and and a pug-like face. While smaller in proportion to its size than the chihuahua, the Boston terrier's ears are just as perky and sure to bring a smile to any prospective pet owner's face.

Dogs with Unique Faces

Chihuahuas have large, round eyes that protrude slightly and are set far apart, and short snouts. Other dogs that have similar facial characteristics to Chihuahuas include the pug and the Chinese crested dog. Pugs have large, round eyes like those of Chihuahuas, but their faces have characteristic skin folds and flatter noses. The Chihuahua is thought to descend from the Chinese crested dog, a mostly hairless breed except for tufts on its face and neck. The Chinese crested also possesses large eyes and pointed ears.

Short Dogs

The Chihuahua's compact body is low to the ground, and the breed has difficulty ascending to certain elevations. Dachshunds are famously short and squat, with long, sausage-shaped bodies and very short legs. Another breed similar to the Chihuahua in stature is the corgi, long favored by the English royal family and likewise possessing short legs on a petite frame, as well as large, bat-like ears.

Jobs For Teenagers That Are 14 Years Of Age

Teenagers can earn spending money

Kids like their own spending money. Some children need to earn their money, whether it is for school lunches or a night at the movies. Most companies do not hire children who are under the age of 16, but there are several job opportunities for teenagers who are 14 years old.

Babysitting

Many children start babysitting around age 12. To get more comfortable taking care of infants and young children, take a babysitting course. This will also make you more desirable to hiring families. In 2010, the starting wage in Omaha, Nebraska, for an inexperienced babysitter was around $7 an hour or $5 per kid. Experienced babysitters earn anywhere from $8 to $12 an hour. This is a lucrative job, and if you enjoy children, it is an honest way to make extra money.

Lawn Service

If you have access to a lawn mower, you can provide inexpensive lawn service to your neighbors. Because people are busy, and tending to their yards is time consuming and labor intensive, many adults pay neighborhood kids to mow and trim their grass, weed their gardens and trim their bushes. You can make anywhere from $10 to $30 dollars for mowing and trimming a single yard. If you do a good job and show reliable, responsible behavior while working, it is likely your neighbor will praise your services to his neighbor, and by mid-summer you could have a booming lawn business.

Pet Sitter

Teenagers who love animals, but are not old enough to get traditional jobs, make exceptional pet sitters. You do not need any extra training or special classes. You just need basic care skills and a willingness to care for animals. Clients may ask you to feed and water their pets, take the dogs for walks, pick up waste or just keep the animal company while the owner is away. To get repeat business, always pick up after the animal and yourself, do not invite friends on your jobs and always be respectful.

Junior Camp Counselor

Many kids' camps hire young teenagers as junior camp counselors. Your role is to assist the counselors with activities, programs and meal prep if needed. This job provides social opportunities and fun activities. Some camps are sleep-away, so you would spend at least one night away from home. Others are day camps, which would allow you to return home each afternoon or evening after the campers leave.

Start A Dog Breeding Business

Choose a breed you are passionate about for your breeding business.

Before you start a dog breeding business, you should already have a significant amount of knowledge about dogs and especially the breed in which you want to specialize. Breeding dogs takes hard work and commitment, so it may not be for everyone.

Instructions

1. Research your breed standards. This is the official guide by which dogs are judged at dog shows, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC). Breeders should be expert in the breeds they produce and sell. Refresh your knowledge on the history of the breed and any commonly-found health or behavioral problems. One of your goals should be to improve the breed with every litter. It may help to become involved with dog clubs, attend shows and talk to other breeders to increase your knowledge.

2. Keep excellent records. Many owners will not buy a dog without registration papers (such as with the AKC or Canadian Kennel Club). Sell your puppies with papers. Your female and male adult dogs should have them too. In addition, create a purchase agreement. This will clearly state what is expected from the breeder (seller) and the buyer; you can also include any health guarantee.

3. Set up a kennel. You will need an appropriate nursery for the puppies. Also, the whelping box must be dry, very warm and draft-free, according to the AKC. The box should be big enough for the mother to be able to move about freely with sides that will safely contain the puppies.

4. Select the parents. Some breeders will purchase one or two foundation females and then choose another breeder's sire. Choose a sire that will improve on any of your female dog's flaws. Dogs that have proven show and performance records should help give you a good measure of their abilities and intelligence. Once you have made your selection, your veterinarian can help with the actual procedure. The dam will need routine care during her pregnancy; ask your vet for specifics.

Axial Osteosarcoma In Dogs

Axial Osteosarcoma in Dogs

Canine osteosarcoma refers to malignant bone tumors found in dogs. Specifically, axial osteosarcoma is characterized by tumors in the axial skeleton, involving the vertebrae, ribs, pelvis, and skull.

Occurrence

While osteosarcoma typically affects larger dogs, axial osteosarcoma is more common in small-breed dogs. Axial osteosarcoma makes up a small percentage of overall canine osteosarcoma cases.

Contributing Factors

Several factors contribute to osteosarcoma and axial osteosarcoma, including ionizing radiation, chemical carcinogens, foreign bodies (such as metal implants) and preexisting skeletal abnormalities (such as sites of healed fractures).

Symptoms

A range of symptoms can accompany canine axial osteosarcoma, including lameness, swelling as the size of the tumor increases and pain. The pain can produce other issues, such as irritability, weight loss, aggression, whimpering, insomnia and diminished interest in walking or other exercise.

Diagnosis

Evaluation of a dog with suspected axial osteosarcoma typically includes a comprehensive physical exam, blood work, radiograph and biopsy.

Treatment

Because of the location of most axial osteosarcoma tumors, a complete surgical removal (excisional biopsy) is often unfeasible. Microscopic tumor cells will be left behind, increasing the risk of local recurrence. Most dogs with axial osteosarcoma tumors will survive for 4 to 5 months and will typically experience tumor recurrence in the same site. Treatment focuses on improving tumor control, as well as the dog's quality of life.

Grants For Municipal Animal Shelters

Animal shelters perform a necessary and valuable service to communities, taking in stray and owner-surrendered animals and re-homing them when possible. However, municipal shelters are often in need of funding, because government-budgeted money often falls short of necessary expenses. Fortunately, grants are available for municipal animal shelters, to aid with day-to-day operations, or to help improve facilities or processes that will benefit the animals and the entire community.

State and Regional Grants

Many states have grant programs for county and municipal animal shelters. The state of Kentucky offers grants to its county shelters for purchase of equipment; Connecticut provides grants for sterilization and vaccination of feral cats. The state's Department of Agriculture is usually responsible for taking grant applications and distributing funds.

Private groups sometimes restrict their grants to a certain state or region. The Miccio Foundation, for example, supports organizations in the state of Iowa, while the Animal Assistance Foundation funds groups in Colorado. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to know which groups are location-specific; a review of each group's guidelines is necessary.

Private Organizations

The bulk of grants to animal shelters across the nation are provided by private organizations. Maddie's Fund offers fourteen different types of grants of varying amounts and lengths of time, depending on the needs of the shelter, their role in the community, and their policies and procedures. The Meacham Foundation provides financial assistance for shelter expansion or improvements. Private organizations often have strict requirements for supported groups, including specific policies that must be followed, measurable results from funded programs, and mandatory reporting throughout the grant period and for a certain time thereafter.

Corporations

Some corporations have created charitable foundations to support animal shelters and other groups. The PetCo Foundation and PetSmart Charities both accept donations in their stores, and use the money collected to provide funding to animal shelters and welfare programs. Both companies also allow shelters and rescue groups to hold "adoption days" at their stores, fund spay/neuter programs and provide disaster relief.

These are just a few examples of available grants for municipal animal shelters. A more comprehensive, but still incomplete, list is available from the Michigan State University Libraries. Shelter directors, staff, and volunteers may benefit from spending a few hours researching and applying for available grants, which in turn will benefit the animals and the community.

Instructions

Adopt a Child From Ukraine

1. Find a reputable adoption agency and adoption attorney with whom to work. Make sure you interview several agencies and attorneys and request and check references before you engage the services of an adoption agency and an adoption attorney.

9. If you’ve been approved, after 10 days have passed, you will become the legal parent of the child.

10. Obtain a new birth certificate for your son or daughter. You will be required to go to the local Vital Records Office, where you will present officials with the court decree granting the adoption and your child’s original birth certificate.

11. Apply for a Ukrainian passport for your new child at the Ukrainian Office of Visas and Registrations. Expect to receive the passport in a minimum of 10 days.

Lynx Animal Facts

The lynx is a species of wild feline that ranges across the northern hemisphere. It exists in Canada, the United States, northern Asia, the Middle East and the western portions of Europe. The lynx has black tufts of hair on the ends of its ears, a mane of longish fur in the neck/face area and back legs longer than the front.

Types

The largest lynx is the Siberian variety of the Eurasian lynx, which can weight as much as 80 lbs. The rarest is the Spanish lynx, of which perhaps 300 remain in the wild in Portugal and Spain.

North American Variety

The Canadian lynx averages between 18 and 24 lbs. and is about 20 inches in length. This lynx lives across Canada and through the northernmost United States, especially Alaska.

Adaptive Toes

The Canadian lynx has the ability to spread its toes apart and make its feet perform as if they were snowshoes, allowing the animal to traverse deep snow cover.

Differences From the Bobcat

The bobcat is another species of lynx, but it has much smaller feet and lacks furry soles on them, making it better equipped to live in warmer conditions in a number of ecosystems.

Diet

The diet of the Spanish lynx consists mainly of rabbits while the larger Eurasian lynx hunts deer and other similar hoofed mammals. The Canadian lynx prefers snowshoe hares to the point that their population correlates to that of its prey.

Threats

Hunting and trapping the lynx for its beautiful fur along with a loss of habitat have cut into the numbers of lynx across the globe.

Register A Thoroughbred Online

In order to be eligible to race, all Thoroughbreds must be registered with the Jockey Club. In order for a young Thoroughbred to be registered with the Jockey Club both the sire and the dam have to already be registered. Now that the Jockey Club has made it possible for owners to register their young racing prospects online, the process is easier and faster then ever before.

Instructions

Register a Thoroughbred Online

1. Before the Thoroughbred foal is even born, the breeder needs to provide the information of the mare’s breeding to the Jockey Club. This report is called a RMB. The breeder, the Jockey Club, and the stallion’s owner will all keep copies of the RMB, which can be electronically filed, in their records. A copy of the RMB must be attached to the foal’s registration papers.

2. Within 30 days of the foal’s birth the mare’s owner must submit a live foal/no foal report to the Jockey Club. This report will contain information about the date of the foal’s birth, what state/province the foal was born in, the foal’s sex, and the name and address of the foal’s current owner. If the pregnancy is terminated or the foal is still born a report of no foal should be filed immediately.

3. Within a few months of submitting the live foal/no foal report the foal’s owner will receive a genetic typing kit as well as a registration application. A soon as possible the owners should send several stands of the of the foals hair to the lab, to have the foal’s parentage confirmed. While waiting for the results of the genetic test, the owner should fill out the registration paper. The Jockey Club requires that a photo of the head, back view, and each side of the foal accompany the foal’s registration application. Make sure that all of the foal’s markings are clearly visible in the photographs.

4. Before submitting the application, make sure that all of the information is correct.

What In A Background Check Can Keep You From Becoming A Foster Parent

Foster parenting is subject to strict rules.

Anyone who wants to become a foster parent must submit to strict background checks. Certain items turned up by a background check will disqualify you from being considered. Some of foster care standards are set at the federal level, and each state has its own list of disqualifying factors.

Child Abuse

A felony conviction for child abuse or neglect or other crime against children will prevent you from becoming a foster parent. All adults residing in the home must submit to a criminal background check, and the state must check that no adult living in the home has ever been on a child abuse or neglect registry.

Violence

Felony convictions for a range of violent crimes will disqualify you. These include spousal abuse, rape, sexual assault or homicide. You'll also be disqualified if you have been convicted of physical assault, battery or a drug-related offense in the previous five years.

Other Crimes

In most states a history of violent crime will disqualify you as a foster parent. Arson, kidnapping, robbery and illegal use of weapons are also disqualifying crimes in most states. Some states also include property crimes, fraud, forgery or burglary.

Other Disqualifications

Most states will disqualify anyone who is currently abusing or addicted to drugs or alcohol. It's also often a disqualification if you suffer from a severe mental illness or emotional disorder. Some states, such as Utah, have strict rules on family circumstances. The state does not allow unmarried couples who live together to serve as foster parents. Additionally, you cannot serve as a foster parent in Utah if you have more than six children under the age of 18 in the home.

Reasons Not To Adopt A Child

Adopting a child may not be the best move for your family.

Adopting a child and giving him a new life can be a wonderful thing, but only if you are ready. Not everyone is suitable for adoption, and since it is such as major decision, you should be sure it is the right choice. If you find yourself having doubts, there is a chance this isn't the right path for you at the moment.

Because It's a Trend

It's wrong to adopt a child simply because it's a trend, or "all the celebrities are doing it." That trend will disappear and you are still left with a little child who needs your constant love and attention. That child doesn't care if it's trendy or you're "cool" for doing it. He just wants your affection and needs your help. Adoption should be about the child, not your status symbol and how people view you.

You Need Affection

If you're seeking companionship, adoption is not the correct substitute. Needing affection is a selfish thing and not something to expect from a child. An adopted child is a child who needs to be taken care of, not vice versa. More than a biological child, an adopted child will need your love and attention. She needs to learn to trust you and, depending on her prior circumstances, may need even more attention to catch her up in learning, improve her health, and heal emotional wounds. Adoption has to be about the child first and foremost, not about what you will get out of it.

Biological Clock Is Ticking

With women having children well into their forties and sometimes even in their fifties, the phrase "my biological clock is ticking" doesn't apply as much as it did in the past. While there is a certain point at which it does become physically impossible to bear children, adopting because you're running out of time to bear your own children isn't a good reason. You should have a child or adopt a child when you are at a point in your life when you are ready to raise children. For some people, that's in their 20s; for others it's not until they are 50. Everyone has her own point of being "ready." Adoption at any age needs to occur only when the adults are ready to accept a child into their lives, and not about when a woman may be running out of time to bear her own biological children.

Tax Write-Off

If you're trying to qualify for a tax write-off by adopting a child, don't even bother. The amount you're able to write off for each child doesn't even begin to cover the cost of raising a child. From a financial standpoint it's a losing venture. The numbers don't make sense, so if this is your motivation for adoption, it's by far the wrong one.

Florida State Animal Laws

No one can legally take coral in Florida.

Florida offers year-round, diverse flora and fauna, and plenty of species of animals ranging from domesticated pets to rare species of turtles. The diversity of the state creates a palette of potential adventures for everyone from cat owners and hobbyist swimmers to hunters and fisherman. Florida officials have instituted a number of animal protection laws which all residents and visitors must follow.

General Animal Cruelty Laws

If you trip, lasso, or otherwise injure or impede the legs of a horse, you may be charged with a felony crime under Florida's animal cruelty statutes. Intentional acts of repeated injury or causing cruel death to domesticated animals are also prosecutable as felonies in the state of Florida. General animal abuse and neglect, which may or may not result in the death of a cat, dog or horse, is usually a misdemeanor crime punishable by jail time and/or fines.

Euthanasia of Sick or Injured Pets

In Florida, if a law enforcement or animal control officer spots a diseased or injured cat or dog, he may humanely euthanize it himself if the owner cannot be located. This law calls to reduce any prolonged suffering to an incurably ill or seriously injured pet that is close to death, according to the University of Vermont's list of Florida animal cruelty statutes.

Turtle Protection Laws

Most turtles are protected under Florida law, as many breeds are considered an endangered species. Turtles that you cannot legally take live as pets or hunt include alligator snapping turtles, snapping turtles, cooters and Escambia map turtles. If the turtle does not fall under the banned list, you are limited to taking one per day for non-commercial use only.

Coral Protection Laws

Florida is the only state in the country to enjoy a substantial amount of coral reefs in its waters. However, if you spot a coral reef you cannot legally take any of the coral, according to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection website. It doesn't matter whether you're a hobbyist swimming or a professional fisherman; taking coral is against the law for everyone in Florida.

Obtain Your Original Birth Certificate

Children born in the United States are issued birth certificates.

A birth certificate is an important document to have on hand. Besides being a record of your official name and birthplace, it can also be a requirement to obtain certain things such as a passport or, in some states, a driver's license. Every state differs on the exact policy for obtaining your birth certificate, but the procedure is very similar in most areas.

Original birth certificates are kept by the state in which a person is born. You cannot obtain this document, but only a copy of it.

Instructions

1. Find out the state in which you were born. If you are unsure, you may be able to find this information in family documents such as scrapbooks, journals or genealogy records. If not, check with a relative who may recall where you were born.

2. Contact the authority in your birth state that records vital statistics. This varies from state to state. A complete list is available at the Centers for Disease Control link under Resources. Call ahead to verify the fee and if any identification will be required. You may be able to order your birth certificate directly from the office over the phone or online.

3. Mail a letter requesting a copy of the birth certificate if you were not able to order it on the phone. Include a check for the fee and any other documents required in your state. Ensure ample time for processing; in some states it takes four to six weeks to receive your birth certificate.

Volunteer On Christmas

Christmas is a time to relax with friends and family, but it's easy to get frazzled by the hectic pace of the holiday season. Volunteering on Christmas and giving back to the community is a good way to remember what the season is truly about. Read on to learn volunteer on Christmas. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Find an organization you care about. This is an important step because you will work harder and get more enjoyment working for a cause that is close to your heart.

2. Budget volunteer hours. Christmas is a busy time--don't commit to more time than you have available. By setting aside a reasonable amount of time you'll be more likely to meet your commitment.

3. Harvest your talents. Look at your hobbies and find one that might be useful to an organization this Christmas.

4. Get your kids involved. They will learn to appreciate the true meaning of Christmas and have a great time volunteering as a family.

5. Let the extended family help. Tell your parents, in-laws, aunts, uncles and friends that you don't want gifts this year. Explain where you plan to volunteer and ask everyone to make a donation in your name.

6. Buy sponsored gifts. For example, if a local charity is selling holiday teddy bears, buy one. You will have a gift for someone and the satisfaction of donating money to a good cause.

Get Food For Homeless Shelters

Homeless shelters try to meet the needs for basic resources like food and clean water.

Food drives for homeless shelters require different tactics than those for food banks and other organizations that serve individuals and small families. Homeless shelters must provide food for large groups of people each day.

Instructions

1. Find a shelter or organization to receive food donations. It is important to first research the shelters and organizations in your local area and determine with which one you wish to work. Contact this organization and tell them of your intent, they may have specific needs that require targeted food items such as fresh produce, water or grains. Set a date of completion that allows a reasonable enough time to make contacts and gather food. Four to six weeks should be enough notice and time allowance.

2. Get the word out. Let people know through flyers, emails or word of mouth what organization you are working with and how they can help. Starting with people you know best at work, school or within your network of friends and colleagues, begin to recruit volunteers to spread the message to reach a wider audience.

3. Gain access to bulletin boards. Discuss posting flyers or notices in grocery stores, at your office or school, or at your place of worship with those in authority over external commitments. Companies may wish to make matching donations or grocery stores that sell food may inspire shoppers to make an extra purchase to add to a barrel, which you can provide.

4. Post announcements online using social networking and bulletin board sites, such as Facebook, Craigslist, MySpace or Twitter. Make certain to include the region, organization and other pertinent details in your search for additional donations outside your personal or professional networks.

5. Get assistance delivering the food. If the net you cast was very large, you may need to request the aid of people who own trucks and are willing to pick up donations and drop them off at the service entrance to the organization you are assisting. Follow the organization's procedures for drop offs, which includes respecting the times of the day during which they can provide volunteers of their own to process the donations.

Care For Pygmy Goats

Before you acquire the cute little pygmy goats that you want to raise, you need to know care for them. The following steps will help you make the final decision in your quest to bring these little guys onto your property and give them the proper care that they deserve.

Instructions

1. Build a fence to make a pen that will allow your pygmy goats to roam around freely. Use post and rail for the fence. Barbed wire can injure your goats.

2. Construct raised wood platforms under a shelter with a concrete floor. Pygmy goats can develop severe hoof problems if they don't have a raised, dry place to sleep.

3. Feed your pygmy goats plenty of hay and grain daily. Make sure there is plenty of clean water at all times for them to drink. If you can, plant a blackberry patch. Pygmy goats love blackberries.

4. Mark your pygmy goats with a tattoo on the inside of their ears. These are available at feed stores and are easy to use. This process will identify the goats as yours in case they get out and wander off your property.

5. Brush your pygmy goat with a hard-wire brush. Goats will tolerate a bath, much like a dog. This procedure will cut down on insect problems in the goat pen.

Start A 501 C 3 In Wisconsin

Obtaining 501(c)(3) status requires careful planning and following detailed instructions.

Nonprofit organizations are vital components of society and offer valuable resources to many individuals. Nonprofits can offer educational assistance, shelter, clothing and food for needy individuals, arts programs and more. Starting a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in Wisconsin requires individuals to submit documentation and follow rules on the state and federal levels. Nonprofit organizations benefit from 501(c)(3) status because they are exempt from federal and state income taxes and are able to offer tax benefits to individuals who make contributions. Starting and running a successful nonprofit in Wisconsin requires careful planning and dedication from leaders, staff and volunteers.

Instructions

1. Choose a legal name for your nonprofit corporation. Your nonprofit is required to have a unique name that does not belong to another business. The name of your nonprofit must end with a corporate designator such as "Incorporated," "Corporation," "Company," "Limited" or an abbreviation of those terms.

9. Submit a completed copy of Form S-103 (CES) to the Wisconsin department of revenue (P.O. Box 8902 Madison, WI 53708-8902) to obtain a Certificate of Exempt Status (CES) number, which exempts nonprofit organizations from sales tax. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations will usually qualify for this status. You are also required to send in a copy of your IRS determination letter, Articles of Incorporation, bylaws and an income statement from your nonprofit's most recent accounting period.

10. Submit a completed copy of Form No. 296 and the current required filing fee to the department of regulation & licensing charitable organizations for permission to solicit contributions.
