Pass A Federal Law

Passing a federal law in the US is no easy task. Miles of red tape and complex bureaucratic procedures make this a difficult objective to accomplish. With some expertise and knowledge of the maze of congress, you may be able to help pass a federal law, providing patience and lady luck are also on your side.

Instructions

1. Have a decent proposal of your own making, backed up by extensive research and make your law applicable to the greater majority, giving it wide appeal and a better chance of approval.

2. Get your bill introduced by having it sent to the clerk. Only a representative or senator can introduce a bill, so approach your local representative with your proposal.

3. Wait for the committee to review the bill. The debate could take a long time and the committee may call upon experts for informed opinions. Find experts who will support your proposal so that your bill can pass the "first reading."

4. Allow the bill to be given a "second reading" and accomplish a favorable verdict by getting as many representatives on your side as possible. This may be achieved by generating public support and pressure.

5. Let the bill be passed around to be given a third reading, then allow it to be passed to Congress, who will then decide whether it is worth pursuing or not. If so, it will then be passed to the President.

6. Hope that the President votes on the bill, and if he agrees, the bill becomes a law. When the President signs the bill, the federal law will have been passed. If he vetoes it, you may still be able to get the law passed, providing the majority of the house votes in favor.

Start A Dog Bakery Business

Dog ernjoying a dog food bakery treat

A dog bakery business fulfills the desire of the dog lover to be an independent entrepreneur. It takes little startup money and you begin small with an expansible future that can take you as far as you’d like. Start with a journal where you will keep information for future growth of the dog bakery. Plan your company as it would be next year, in five years and in ten years. Your entries will give you a clear picture of where your business is headed.

Instructions

1. Choose a name for your dog bakery business. Include "dog bakery" in the name. It's important that people know exactly the type of business you have.

2. Follow all rules and regulations for making and selling dog food treats. Check with your county business administration for licenses needed and regulations to follow. Most states do not require a certified kitchen for making and selling dog food.

3. Gather a few good basic dog treat recipes. Try them out and then make the recipes your own by adding your own dog-safe ingredients. Use your own dog, or a dog friend, as a tester.

4. Figure out the pricing list. Make sure to add all ingredients, packaging and electrical costs to make a batch of dog treats. Divide that cost by the number of treats a batch makes. Triple that amount for your final cost of a single dog treat.

5. Package your dog treats. You will need labeling and containers. Plastic storage containers and re-sealable plastic bags are viable choices.

6. Print your label on large labels that fit the container size. Use your computer to print the name of your dog treats, your business name and phone number, the weight of the product and the ingredients. It’s nice if you can advertise that the treats are made from human grade ingredients with no added chemical preservatives.

7. Find places to sell your dog bakery treats. Start with farmers and Saturday markets. Check with the county administration office or city chamber of commerce for contact information. There is a nominal fee to be a vendor in these markets, but you will also need tables, chairs and some sort of overhead tent to keep sun off of your product and you.

8. Brainstorm the next step in your business growth. Perhaps, offer your dog treats for sale to veterinary offices and dog kennels. Leave samples along with a price sheet and your business card. Call on them in a week or two to follow up.

What Is An Android Rosie Utility

The HTC EVO 4G uses HTC Sense.

The Android Rosie utility represents the HTC Sense user interface. Sense is a custom interface designed by HTC for use on its smartphones and tablets. It provides the EVO with a layout and features that work in conjunction with the version of Google's Android operating system that the device is running.

Rosie

HTC used the name "Rosie" as the unofficial title of the company's custom smartphone and tablet interface, initially released in 2009. Upon its release on the HTC Hero smartphone, the interface became known as HTC Sense. If you use one of the devices that initially adopted HTC Sense, you may see active utilities in the "Running Services" menu that use the name "Rosie," referring to a component of HTC Sense.

Sense Basics

Google's Android operating system is an open source mobile interface that allows developers to customize it to create a different user experience on each Android device. This allows two different Android smartphones running the same core version of the operating system to appear and function uniquely. HTC Sense does not replace Android, but augments it with features that HTC deems useful. It is native to HTC devices and cannot be removed without going through the rooting process and terminating your warranty.

Scenes

HTC Sense allows you to create different layouts, or scenes, on your smartphone or tablet. A layout can be set to change automatically based on the time of day or simply exist until you choose to activate it. Scenes allow you to save settings for specific purposes, so icons and preferred applications will be readily accessible when you're at work, at home or on the road. For example, a work scene could consist of a more professional home screen wallpaper, with icons for email and office applications moved to a prominent location.

Additional Features

HTC Sense builds on the Android operating system by offering many nuances, such as native social networking support via its Friend Stream application. Friend Stream combines social networks into one interface, with an optional home screen widget. Other features include custom widgets, silencing your ringer by turning the smartphone over and the device recognizing it's in an enclosed area and ringing louder. The interface organizes recent activity around the contact that it's associated with, allowing you to quickly go back and review any interactions.

Mate A Skunk

Very little is known about the mating habits of skunks. Breeding skunks in captivity in the United States is illegal, with the exception of a very few breeders who are licensed by the government and they are mainly licensed for breeding only for the fur trade. Most states have outlawed the keeping of skunks as pets. For this reason, captive breeding is outlawed, except for those with licenses.

Instructions

1. Choose the appropriate breeding season for the species of skunk you wish to breed. This season will vary based on geographical location. As a general rule, breeding usually happens in early spring

2. Choose a location that has room for your female(s) to dig a den for herself and her young. Place the female in the area and give her time to prepare her den before introducing the male

3. Place one male skunk in an area with several females. Male skunks are polygynous. This means that the male takes more than one female mate; his is often referred to as a harem. Multiple females will live in a den with one male.

4. This is where the mating ritual is vague. What is known is that after the female has been impregnated, she will, most often, run off the male. So, the thing to do now is wait. You will know when the female has mated with the male because she will no longer allow him near the den.

5. Be patient and keep an eye on your female. All female skunks have placental pregnancies. Skunks are capable of delayed implantation. This means that they can mate and the egg can be fertilized, but the implantation into the uterus may not happen for up to six months. For this reason it is important to note that although the female skunk may not appear to be impregnated, she may just have a delayed gestation period.

6. The female skunk will normally have between four and seven kits within 60 to 90 days after implantation.

7. You can begin the process again when the kits are one years old. At this age, they will be sexually mature.

Make Your Moshi Monster Fly

Diavlo, the red monster in the middle cubby, is one Moshi Monster that can fly.

When you walk around Monstro City, the Port or any other public "Moshi Monsters" location, you will see flying Moshi Monsters. While most Moshi Monsters walk around with their feet on the ground, some Moshi Monsters soar above the crowd. If you want to make your Moshi Monster fly, you may be out of luck if you have already begun the game. Nevertheless, you can still get a flying Moshi Monster depending on which Moshi Monster you choose to adopt.

Instructions

1. Create a new account and adopt either a Luvli or a Diavlo Moshi Monster. The Luvli resembles a feminine cherry. The Diavlo is a fiery volcano monster with tiny bat wings. These are the only two Moshi Monsters that can fly.

2. Log onto "Moshi Monsters" every day. A neglected Luvli or Diavlo will become unhappy and potentially ill. When unhappy or ill, the Moshi Monster will sink to the ground and will not fly.

3. Keep your Luvli or Diavlo happy and healthy. You will see a red bar that indicates the Moshi Monster's health, and a yellow bar that indicates the Moshi Monster's happiness on the left of the screen. Put your mouse arrow over either bar and you will see a number. Both "Health" and "Happiness" have maximum values of 1,000. The higher the value, the higher your Luvli or Diavlo will fly.

How Give My Maltese Dog A Haircut Myself

Maltese dogs need hair cuts often.

Maltese dogs make a great pet for those with small living quarters or someone who is looking for more of an indoor dog. These small dogs, weighing only around six pounds, need to be groomed often due to the silky and long nature of their hair. Your Maltese should get a hair cut every four to eight weeks depending on how quickly your particular dog's fur grows. Avoid expensive groomer bills by learning to cut your dog's hair on your own.

Instructions

1. Place your pet Maltese on a towel on top of a table.

2. Brush your dog's fur thoroughly to get rid of any knots. Because Maltese dogs have long hair, make sure to brush both the top and bottom layers.

3. Slowly and evenly cut your dog's long coat. Use the scissors to trim the main body of the animal.

4. Utilize the electric trimmer to groom the harder to reach and tiny parts of the Maltese such as the area around the ears, the top of the feet and the stomach. If you find any hairs growing out from the inside of the Maltese's ears, remove them carefully using tweezers.

5. Bathe your dog when you are done with the hair cut. Place your pup in a small tub or your own bath tub and lather the Maltese with pet shampoo. Rinse thoroughly.

6. Blow dry the dog's coat on a low heat setting after the bath. This will help to get rid of excess loose hairs as well as keep the dog warm.

Remove Ticks From Pets

Remove Ticks From Pets

Ticks thrive in woody, grassy and brushy areas and carry diseases such as Rocky Mountain spotted fever and Lyme disease. That's why it's essential to keep them off your pet. Here are a few steps to ensure your pet is tick free.

Instructions

1. Check your pet for ticks daily if he spends a lot of time outdoors, especially if you live in an area known for ticks.

2. Put on latex gloves to avoid direct contact with the tick and contaminated skin, as diseases can be transmitted from tick to pet to human.

3. Feel your pet all over, especially around the neck, head and ears. If you encounter a lump like a small pea, move the fur on your pet to see if you have found a tick.

4. Look to see if a tick is protruding from the skin. Ticks are tiny black, brown, reddish or tan disklike arachnids (having eight legs), about the size of the head of a pin. If they have attached themselves to their host (your pet), then they can swell up to the size of a grape in some cases.

5. Put your pet in a comfortable position. Ask a friend or family member for help in distracting your pet.

6. Grasp the tick with tweezers as close to your pet's skin as possible; make sure not to pinch your pet's skin.

7. Pull the tick out using a straight, steady pulling motion. Be gentle; pulling too hard on the tick can cause its head to remain lodged in your pet's skin, which can lead to inflammation and secondary infection.

8. Dispose of the tick by throwing it into a fire, or by squishing it in a tissue using the tweezers and then flushing it down the toilet. Do not smash it with your foot or your bare hands.

9. Apply antiseptic ointment to the bite.

10. Remove and wash the gloves, and wash your hands thoroughly.

11. Clean the tweezers with hot water or isopropyl alcohol or by holding them over a flame.

Spca Animal Control Officer Requirements

Animal control officer requirements are not uniform.

The Humane Law Enforcement division is the animal control division for the ASPCA. The HLE investigates 400 to 500 cases of animal cruelty each year and even has a show on the Animal Planet channel called Animal Precinct. However, the HLE only has jurisdiction in the state of New York. All other branches of the SPCA use either contract animal control officers or have their own division of humane law enforcement.

Required Education

The education needed to be an entry-level Animal Control officer is flexible and highly dependent on the specific municipality. A degree in criminal justice, criminology or veterinarian technology would be beneficial but in some areas a high school degree with on-the-job training may be adequate. However, any knowledge of anti-cruelty and animal control laws, standards of care and typical animal diseases would benefit the applicant regardless of education.

Required Skills

Animal Control officers must obviously have a love for animals. However, to be successful, officers must learn to distance themselves from the animals to avoid becoming overly attached. AC officers must learn to communicate effectively and work well in a bureaucratic setting. Prior experience as a park ranger, police officer or peace officer will benefit applicants as well.

Working for the SPCA

To become an animal control officer the ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement agency recommends contacting state and local animal organization and animal control offices for area-specific information. Local law enforcement agencies might have contact information and may even offer animal control training programs as well. The National Animal Control Association has a three-level training course and a yearly training summit as well.

Train A Puppy With Separation Anxiety

Train your puppy to stay calm when you are gone.

Having a puppy with separation anxiety is hard on the puppy and hard on you. Owners sometimes create separation anxiety by allowing their puppies to behave in ways that confuse them. For instance, when a puppy cries as you leave and you instantly acknowledge that behavior by trying gently to reassure the puppy, the puppy thinks you are rewarding that behavior and therefore repeats the behavior over and over. Training a puppy with separation anxiety takes dedication and patience. Do not give up on the puppy: You can stop this behavior.

Instructions

1. Practice leaving your puppy alone. Pretend to leave by going out the door and staying out for five minutes. Gradually increase the time you stay away, letting the puppy learn that you will in fact return.

2. Play with your puppy for several minutes before you leave. Play fetch or take the puppy for a walk, generally wearing the puppy out. Do not work the puppy up and get it excited right before you leave. Let the puppy calm down while you quietly leave the house without acknowledging the puppy.

3. Give your puppy lots of toys to play with when you leave. Choose toys that make the puppy use its brain and keep it occupied while alone. Consider leaving a radio on or adopting another pet so they can entertain each other.

4. Return to your home without making a big fuss over your puppy. Ignore the excited behavior of your puppy until you are settled. Calmly and quietly acknowledge your puppy and reward it for calm behavior.

Pick A Rottweiler Puppy

Rottweilers grow quickly, and, if they have poor temperament, can easily overpower a person.

According to the American Kennel Club, the Rottweiler is "an inherent protector, ...self-confident and responds quietly and with a wait-and-see attitude to influences in his environment." This breed can be a great family companion as well as a guard dog. Choosing a Rottweiler puppy that will fit your needs is paramount to your success with owning this breed. Socialization and obedience training while your dog is still at a young age will allow you to easily manage and properly care for this powerful breed.

Instructions

1. Locate a reputable breeder in your area that has a strong breeding history with healthy, even-tempered, well-socialized puppies for sale.

2. Enter an area where you can interact with all the Rottweiler puppies at once without the mother dog present.

3. Observe the way each puppy interacts with each other and how they perceive or treat you. You may not want to choose puppies that run right up to you and jump all over you, tug at your clothes or growl at you, because these puppies have dominant personalities and may be hard to train and control.

4. Choose a puppy that is interested in you but isn't pushy and overly vocal. Avoid shy puppies that do not make eye contact or run away when you try to pet them, because these dogs may grow to be shy adult Rottweilers that are prone to fear or anxiety biting.

Create A Free Website For Animal Rescue

Two things generally ring true when speaking about animal rescue activists. Animal rescuers exhibit tremendous dedication to their work, and they struggle to meet expenses in caring for animals after they are rescued. Fund-raising allows individuals involved in animal rescue work to continue their efforts. Many animal rescuers have found innovative and creative ways to raise funds without spending too much money. Today, almost any kind of marketing, including fund-raising, involves Internet marketing. Animal rescuers can create an effective web presence for free using available web resources.

Instructions

1. Write a blog. Several blogging sites allow anyone to create a blog with pictures, commentaries, comments, links, RSS feeds and other applications and formatting options. Use all the tools the blog provides to create a powerful website that explains animal rescue procedures, tells the animals' stories and demonstrates the satisfaction of being part of this effort. Post comments frequently on similar blogs so that people will look back at your blog's link.

2. Use a Googlepage to design a basic but attractive and compelling animal rescue website. Googlepages provide template defaults, navigation tools, a simple text editor, links and tools to add pictures.

3. Use one of the free website hosting services available on the Internet to build a simple website. These websites contain the webhost's advertisements, but the website builder can add content and as many web pages as necessary, perform basic text editing and insert pictures.

Why Is The White Siberian Endangered

The White Siberian Tiger is the largest of all tigers.

White Siberian tigers, which are also known as "Amur tigers," may be found in small numbers in certain heavily forested segments of southeastern Russia, northeastern China, North Korea, and Mongolia. They are also found in zoos around the world.

Population

A white tiger cub

In the 1940s, it was estimated by wildlife monitoring organizations that fewer than 30 white Siberian tigers were still living in the wild. As a result of strong conservation efforts, their population numbers increased to almost 500 by 2005.

Endangered Species

White Siberian tiger population is currently in decline.

Since 2005, the population of wild, white Siberian tigers has declined, according to Defenders of Wildlife. As a result, the white Siberian tiger continues to be classified as an Endangered Species by the world governing organization, the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN).

Habitat Loss

Habitat loss threatens the white Siberian tiger.

One reason for the decline in population is habitat loss. White Siberian tigers require vast forest landscapes to survive and, due to intense logging and human land development, the forested areas of their native lands are dwindling.

Poaching

Illegal tiger bones & body parts are still sometimes used in the production of traditional Chinese medicine.

Another reason for population decline is poaching. In spite of protection laws that exist in both Russia and China, the white Siberian tiger continues to be hunted and killed for its fur, as well as its bones and body parts, which are used in traditional Chinese medicine.

Loss of Prey

The wild boar is the most common prey of the white Siberian tiger.

White Siberian tigers are also affected by humans hunting and killing the tiger's natural prey. As food sources are depleted, the tiger's chances of survival decrease.

Efforts of Conservation Agencies

Conservation organizations are hard at work trying to save the white Siberian tiger.

Although the future of the white Siberian tiger is uncertain, there are numerous conservation organizations throughout the world that are working to save these animals from extinction.

Make Your Neopet Not Be Miserable

Neopets, an online gaming site, allows users to adopt and care for up to four pets. Caring for a Neopet involves feeding, grooming and playing with it on a regular basis. Pets will become unhappy and even miserable over time if you do not take care of them. No worries though, there are several things that you can do to make your pet not be miserable any longer. You can increase pet happiness by taking the pet on a Tiki Tour, feeding it neggs and by playing with the pet.

Instructions

Tiki Tour

1. Log in to your account on the Neopets website. Click on your pet's name, above the image of your pet, on the top left corner of the screen. The next page that comes up is the reference page. The pet's mood is located in the list of pet stats. This is how you can tell if the pet is indeed miserable.

2. Move your cursor to the menu at the top of the screen and click the "Explore" link. Scroll down the next page and locate the "Mystery Island" link. Click the link to go to the island.

3. Look to the right on the map of Mystery Island and locate the sign that says "Tiki Tours." Click the sign to go to the tour main page. A tour costs 50 neopoints that you can earn by playing games and participating in site activities.

4. Click the button underneath the miserable pet and then click the "Go on the Tour" button underneath the pet. The next page will show you all the sights your pet will see while touring the island. You can repeat this process as many times as it takes to make your pet not be miserable.

Neggs

5. Feed the pet neggs to make it happier. You can buy neggs for neopoints by going to the the trading post or by trading in lesser value neggs to the Negg Faerie located in the Ice Caves. Neggs that can increase happiness include the "Happy Negg," "Glamour Negg" and "Smiley Negg."

6. Find the Trading Post by hovering over the "Shops" link at the top of the page and clicking the "Trading Post" link that is in the drop down menu. The Negg Faerie is found at the Neggery. You can find the Neggery by clicking the "Explore" button at the top of the page and then clicking the "Terror Mountain" link on the main map page. Click the "Ice Caves" button at the top of the page and then the "Neggery" sign on the next page.

7. Feed your pet a negg by going to your inventory, located by clicking the amount of neopoints you have at the top right of the screen. Once in your inventory, click the negg image and choose the option of feed to your pet in the drop down box.

Get Rid Of Flying Squirrels From A Ceiling

Flying squirrels need only a tiny opening in your roof to invade your attic and ceiling.

Flying squirrels, while not as common as the grey squirrel, will also often make their homes inside attics and ceilings. Flying squirrels are smaller than grey squirrels, with a typical adult being 9 inches and weighing approximately 3 ounces. Flying squirrels can squeeze through very small holes or cracks in your home, and often enter homes through the eaves. Though they are not harmful, they can destroy insulation, which they use to make nests, and will make quite a bit of noise early in the morning and at dusk. The best way to capture flying squirrels is to use a baited live trap. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Find where the squirrels are entering your home. Walk around the perimeter of your home and examine the eaves, or vent-like slits that help circulate air inside the attic. Look closely for any signs of chewing or any noticeable holes or cracks.

2. Go into the attic. Walk over to the area where you think the squirrels are entering. Look for signs of flying squirrel activity, such as destroyed insulation, fecal droppings or food debris such as nut or seed shells.

3. Place a live trap in the area of flying squirrel activity. Bait the trap with nuts, seeds, peanut butter, or small pieces of fruit. Set the trap near the opening where the squirrels are entering or in the area where you hear them scampering on the ceiling.

4. Leave the area immediately after baiting and setting the trap. Check the trap in the morning to see if you have caught any flying squirrels. Keep checking the trap frequently if it is empty the first time.

5. Call your local animal control department if you catch a flying squirrel in your trap. Animal control will often relocate the squirrel to a suitable area. They may also be able to tell you where you can release the squirrel yourself if they cannot assist you.

6. Place a towel over the live trap before transporting the trap and squirrel to the relocation area. The darkness of the towel will help calm the squirrel and keep it from injuring itself when you move the trap.

Make Animal Tracks

Making animal tracks is a great way to learn about nature and an interesting craft for young and old. The tracks can be labeled with information on where and when they were found on the back of the cast. If desired, the animal tracks can be painted. After completing this project, your animal tracks can be displayed in a cabinet, on a table or mounted on the wall.

Instructions

1. Find animal prints. Animal prints are easy to find in the mud near streams and other bodies of water.

2. Clear away small leaves, twigs, rocks and other debris from the animal print, taking care not to damage the area.

3. Take a strip of cardboard about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inches wide and form it in a circle to put around the animal print. The length of the cardboard will depend on the size of the print. Make it slightly larger than the print. Use a stapler to secure the circle. Place the circle in the wet mud so that it surrounds the animal print area.

4. Stir five parts water to two parts plaster of Paris to make a paste. The amount needed will vary by the size of the animal print. Make enough to fully cover the print with about 1 inch more around the sides.

5. Pour the plaster carefully into the area you have circled by the cardboard. Do not spread the plaster to thin or the print will break easily. Use more paste for larger casts.

6. Wait for the plaster to set about 30 minutes to one hour. Afterward, remove the thin cardboard and pick up the cast.

7. Wait for the cast to harden fully, this may take a few days. Be sure to label the animal track with information on where you saw the track or paint it, if desired.

Buy A Pet Squirrel

Squirrels can make interesting pets. However, before you purchase one, check all applicable laws to confirm that keeping and caring for a squirrel is legal in your town, county and state. Afterwards, the only thing standing between you and pet squirrel ownership is finding a competent breeder.

Instructions

1. Confirm that it's legal to keep pet squirrels in your state. Find your state's Department of Wildlife (or Natural Resources) phone number and inquire about laws governing pet squirrel ownership. Check with city hall, health departments and other relevant county offices to determine whether there are special laws regarding squirrel pet ownership in your state, county or town.

2. Contact your local department of animal services. Ask about pet squirrel permits. If your region requires that you have a permit, obtain one before pursuing pet squirrel ownership.

3. Get a list of exotic pet dealers in your area. Find a pet squirrel breeder. Buying pet squirrels from experienced breeders ensures that you get a captive-bred, domesticated squirrel that is easy to manage and look after.

4. Call pet squirrel breeders. Arrange meetings to see their stock.

5. Check the pet squirrel's appearance. Lustrous coats without fleas or ticks, average weight, a clean nose and eyes that are not clouded are signs of good health.

6. Note the squirrel's behavior. Although you are in the market for a squirrel that has been tamed beforehand, a squirrel that goes completely limp in your hands may not be the best squirrel to purchase. A squirrel's suspicion is natural and can often indicate that it is alert and healthy.

7. Ask breeders questions about squirrel pet care. Verify that they are interested in the squirrel's health and care after it has left their hands. Inquire about their availability and support should you need it in the future.

8. Decide on a breeder and pet squirrel to buy.

9. Visit the breeder again and buy your pet squirrel. Exchange any necessary paperwork, phone numbers and money.

Coonhound Characteristics

Coonhounds were originally bred to trail and tree raccoons.

Coonhounds are purebreds dogs and there are six different breeds: English, Black and Tan, Redbone, Bluetick, Plott hound and Treeing Walker. Coonhounds have been around since the 11th century in England where they were bred for trailing and treeing raccoons. As scent hounds, they will trail and tree an animal, indicating that they've found it with a distinctive howl. They are fearless, hard workers and have been used to trail bears and mountain lions, as well as other wild animals.

Physical Characteristics

Coonhounds average between 50 to 70 lbs. and are between 20 to 30 inches high. Their average life span is 12 years. Their colors vary and their hair is short and thick requiring minimal maintenance.

Health

In general, Coonhounds do very well and have avoided many common problems associated with purebreds, such as hip dysplasia in labrador retreivers. However, ear infections are common because of their long, floppy ears.

Personality

According to the American Kennel Club, Coonhounds enjoy attention, and are very outgoing and friendly. They are good with kids and enjoy being part of a family. Coonhounds will not be happy kept in a kennel all day without any socialization or exercise. Committing to owning a Coonhound means providing the time for daily exercise and socialization.

Pack Animal

Coonhounds, according to the American Kennel Club, do best working cooperatively with other hounds when trailing a scent. As pack animals, Coonhounds do not do well left alone for long periods of time. If you are unable to have another dog to keep your Coonhound company or able to spend time with your hound each day, then it's probably not the dog for you.

Training

A working dog, Coonhounds require daily exercise and should be kept on-leash, Their natural instincts will lead them to trail and tree small animals. Coonhounds require consistent, positive training and for their owner to always assume the Alpha dog position. If you are not willing to do that, or have the time for both daily exercise and training reinforcement, then this may not be the dog for you.

Philanthropist Grants

The individual philanthropist and nonprofit philanthropic organization alike may qualify to apply for a grant.

Ending at state and national borders or reaching worldwide, grants are made available through the government and private foundations. Because grant opportunities are ever-changing, find a government agency or organization that lines up with your philanthropic work and consistently check for grant opportunities. Look for the closing date for applications, the minimum and maximum amount of funding, and the expected number of awards. This will give you a timeline and idea of the opportunities at hand.

Disaster Relief

If your philanthropic work involves international disaster relief, the Agency for International Development offers the "International Emergency Food Assistance" grant, which in 2011, reached a maximum amount, known as the award ceiling, of $300,000,000. For philanthropic grants within national borders, the Economic Development Administration offers the "FY 2011 Supplemental Appropriations Disaster Relief Opportunity" for the relief of severe weather disasters. Find grants like these on Grants.gov.

Environment

The Fish and Wildlife Service for Individuals or the National Institute of Health, found on Grants.gov, offers a variety of grants for nonprofit organizations dealing specifically with the improvement of the environment through projects and research. Private foundations; such as the Ford Foundation, have spread their reach to North America, Latin America, Africa and Asia; letting you apply for an environmental grant such as the "Advocates Coalition for Development and Environment" grant, a grant targeted towards giving Uganda locals access to natural resources. (See Resources)

Food

For the philanthropist seeking to feed the hungry, look for grants provided by government agencies such as the National Institute of Food and the Agriculture or National Endowment for the Humanities. Government grants dealing with food may manifest themselves in the form of research or nutritional education. Find such grants on Grants.gov. Private foundation grants may afford alternate opportunities.

Health

If your philanthropic work involves the health industry, the National Institutes of Health and the Food and Drug Administration agency offer government grants. Health industry grants are listed on Grants.gov and include opportunities like research and nutritional education. Find grants by performing an advanced search on the site. Search by the agency or by the category, "Health." In addition, find private foundation grants by looking at health grant opportunities given by The Soros Foundations Network and the Ford Foundation.

Find A Breeder In Your Area

Finding a reputable breeder will give you the best odds of finding a healthy, socialized puppy.

For the average consumer, it's difficult to distinguish a puppy mill or kitten producer from a reputable breeder. Though even puppy mill puppies and kitten producer kittens need good homes, they are often unhealthy and unsocialized, leading to large health bills and behavior problems as they get older. To avoid this, it's important to look for reputable breeders in your area and to ask questions about the health and temperaments of its puppies or kittens and visit its facilities. There are many resources available to those willing to do their homework, and these will help you find the best puppy or kitten for your family.

Instructions

1. Visit the American Kennel Club web site for a list of certified dog breeders. Though not all reputable breeders will belong to the American Kennel Club, that's a great place to start. If you know which breed you would like to purchase, each breed has its own national club, which can also refer you to the best breeders in your area. The cat world has no equal to this, but there are breed clubs, just as there are with dogs. If you know which breed of kitten you want, a club in your area will be able to point you in the right direction.

2. Purchase a magazine, such as "Dog Fancy" or "Cat Fancy," which allows breeders to advertise. These are national listings, but you may be surprised how many breeders are within a reasonable driving range from your home.

3. Ask pet professionals that you respect, such as your veterinarian or groomer. Or if you see someone with a puppy or kitten of the look you want, ask them about their breeder. Although not everyone is an expert, many people have done their homework and know the best breeders in the area.

4. Attend a local dog or cat show or competition. All of the canine entrants in a dog competition will be certified by the American Kennel Club and they likely came from excellent breeders. Some breeders will have booths at the event or will be showing dogs/cats, so you can meet them and some of their dogs/cats and ask questions. Magazines like "Dog Fancy" and "Cat Fancy" will also advertise shows in your area.

Buy A Chameleon

Buying a chameleon is perhaps more difficult than many shoppers realize. Not only should you be concerned about picking a healthy chameleon, the lizard's dietary and habitat requirements are demanding and must be taken into account. A few simple steps can help ensure an informed purchase.

Instructions

1. Learn as much as you can about chameleons. By learning as much as possible before purchasing a chameleon, you can be sure to provide a healthy environment for your pet. Chameleons are complicated animals, so consult a book or a reputable website like Chameleons Online for detailed care instructions.

2. Decide where to buy. Chameleon enthusiasts often insist that pet stores are not great places to buy chameleons. However, chameleon dealers are in short supply in much of the country, as most of them are in California or Florida. By educating yourself about the lizards before you purchase, you can judge whether your local pet store employs knowledgeable workers and is a suitable place to purchase a chameleon. Also, consider reptile shows when trying to purchase a healthy pet.

3. Research the species you want. Some chameleon species are harder to care for than others. By understanding the breed you are interested in you can better prepare to house and care for your lizard. The Veiled Chameleon, Jackson's Chameleon and Panther Chameleon tend to be easier to care for than some other species.

4. Consider age. Most reputable breeders will not sell a chameleon less than five or six weeks old because they are difficult to care for and less likely to be healthy. However, many pet stores carry chameleons anywhere from three to six weeks old. If a salesperson or dealer cannot tell you the age of a lizard, go elsewhere.

5. Recognize signs of illness. Sunken eyes, swollen joints, bumps, sores, lethargy and a weak grip are all signs of health problems. If these symptoms exist, think twice about buying the chameleon.

What Percentage Of Health Insurance Do Employers Pay

Employer contributions to health insurance vary widely.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 60 percent of Americans get private health insurance through their employers. However, not all plans are the same. They vary widely in rules, coverage levels and costs. Although the law does not require employers to contribute to the cost of employee health insurance premiums, most employers do. Amounts and percentages vary widely. However, the Henry J Kaiser Family Foundation reports that more often than not, employers make significant contributions to employee's health insurance costs.

Averages

In its 2010 survey of employer-sponsored group health insurance, the Kaiser Family Foundation found that employers contributed an average of 82 percent of employee premiums for employee-only coverage and 71 percent for family coverage. This amounted to an average annual contribution of $4,150 for individuals and $9,773 for families.

Premiums

Premiums depend on a number of factors including a company's size, prior insurance utilization and type of plan. Small businesses tend to have fewer options. As a rule, insurance companies either charge small organizations more per employee or offer lower coverage levels on affordable options. Because of the large volume of business they bring and their larger risk pools, big companies typically get better premiums and higher levels of coverage for their employees.

Cost-Sharing

The Kaiser Family Foundation reports that not only do most employees pay a portion of their insurance premiums, but their insurance costs have been rising steadily. Employers have difficulty keeping up with rising insurance costs and aren't able to keep employee costs as low as they used to be. Between 2000 and 2010, insurance premiums rose an average of 115 percent and employee contributions increased 147 percent. Plans cost an average of $6,478 in 2000 and $13,770 in 2010.

Decisions

Employers often face difficult decisions. High premiums can make it difficult to shoulder the majority of costs. That's why small and struggling employers sometimes sponsor group coverage, but defer costs entirely to employees. However, businesses usually try to contribute as much as they can. Each organization has to evaluate the plans available to it and decide what it can afford. Insurance brokers can help businesses examine numerous insurance options and negotiate for the lowest rates possible. As companies grow, they can re-evaluate their health insurance plans and take advantage of their higher head counts to get better deals.

The Effects Of Adoption On Existing Children

Over time, older siblings tend to develop close relationships with adopted children.

Adoption is a momentous, life-changing event -- not just for the adoptive parents and adopted child, but for any other members of the family, too. Existing biological or previously adopted children may experience jealousy or confusion about the adoption process. If you're planning to adopt a child, make sure you pay close attention to the effects it could have on your other children.

Confusion

Younger children may not understand the adoption process and are often confused by the presence of a stranger in their homes. Perspectives Press, an adoption-focused book publisher, recommends that parents volunteer to babysit a child of about the same age as the one they intend to adopt. Care for this child in the presence of your other children, explaining the new child's needs, to help them get used to having another person in the household. This can make the transition to having a new brother or sister seem less jarring.

Jealousy

Many children become jealous of a new sibling, whether that child is adopted or a biological relative. Most parents pay a lot of attention to the new child, especially if that child has special needs. Take care to balance your time and attention among all family members. If you are adopting a special-needs child, explain why your adoptee needs extra care. Taking the time to discuss the adoption with your other children may not eliminate jealousy or anger, but it can reduce these negative emotions.

Loneliness

Especially in cases of international adoption, when the prospective parents must visit the adoptee's home country for long periods of time, existing family members may feel left out or abandoned. Even in domestic adoptions, the legal process can eat up time, causing loneliness or worry. Some families include their children in the adoption process to reduce feelings of loneliness and separation anxiety. If you intend to bring your children with you for an international adoption, go over the relevant laws and regulations first; some countries prohibit this practice.

Considerations

While the adoption process can cause anxiety, jealousy and other unpleasant feelings in older siblings, these effects aren't significantly different from those that occur with the birth of a new baby. According to "Adoptive Families" magazine, adoption doesn't affect sibling relationships. Both adopted and biological siblings have similar levels of closeness and often share psychological traits. In the long term, adoption doesn't have a significant effect on the relationship between children in a family.

Animal Protection

There are many government-sponsored animal protection programs and charities in various areas that need employees to inspect kennels, operate animal ambulances, handle issues of animal cruelty and abuse, or to attend and care for animals that have been rescued. Salaries vary greatly depending on the type of position and organization.

Animal Conservation

Animal conservationists help reduce the impact of humans upon animals and their habitats through a variety of means. They work as consultants to industry, in research capacities for government organizations, and in law enforcement as rangers and game wardens and earn an average of $60,170 annually.

Veterinary Medicine

Veterinarians and their assistants exhibit kindness to animals by treating their illnesses and keeping them well. Veterinarians earn approximately $71,990 annually, while their assistants average $29,850.

Animal Care

Look For Westies To Adopt

Many Westies are ready for adoption.

One of the most popular small breeds of dog in North American and Europe is the West Highland white terrier, or Westie. But there is no need to buy a Westie puppy when so many puppies and adults are available for adoption. Westies are surrendered to shelters often through no fault of their own. According to Westie Rescue USA, reasons for Westies being surrendered include the owner dying or becoming ill; owner losing a job and owner moving to a place that does not allow dogs.

Instructions

1. Contact your local animal shelter and tell them that you are looking to adopt a Westie. Keep contacting them weekly because they may be too busy to contact you. The shelter may also be able to give the contact information of a local Westie rescue group. In the meantime, research the dog adoption process for that particular shelter. Understand their requirements for potential adopters such as fees involved, providing references from your veterinarian and to allow inspections of your home from shelter workers.

2. Go online to your favorite search engine and type in "westie rescue" or "westie rescue" and your state or country's name. You may find a Westie rescue organization in your own hometown. Click on the Westie rescue group website and download a dog application form. Read it before filling it out. Email or telephone the rescue group in case you have questions about the form, eligibility requirements and to find out if there is a waiting list.

3. Talk to your veterinarian and/or the vet's office staff. They may know of any Westies available for adoption or of any owner about to relinquish his or her dog or of any breeders looking for homes for retired breeding or show dogs. Ask if you could post a "Westie Wanted to Adopt" notice on the office billboard.

About Homeless Shelters

About Homeless Shelters

Talk of homeless shelters can be a taboo topic. Though there are people living on the streets everywhere, most don't want to talk about it. There are facts about these shelters, and a lot of non-truths as well that get thrown around. These organizations can provide a lot more good for people than most would ordinarily think. Homelessness is a huge worldwide problem, and more people should learn the truth about it.

The Facts

Homeless shelters are places found in urban cities that people without homes can stay in during the night. Some shelters are open during the day for those who need refuge 24 hours. Shelters offer people a safe place to stay and a bed to sleep in. Anyone who is homeless can stay at these establishments; no one is turned away. There are some that are only for men or women.

These organizations are run by the government or state, a church or non-profit organization wanting to help. It takes a lot of money, which can sometimes be hard to come by. The local government often helps with funding.

Features

Not only do homeless shelters provide beds, but lots have a soup kitchen too. Soup kitchens give hot meals to those without, for free. These are volunteer-run usually.

Some of these havens also provide treatment for drug and alcohol abuse. According to Goodwill, about one in four people who are homeless use these substances. Some shelters in Canada actually provide a fixed amount of alcohol daily to wean these people off of it--these are called Wet Shelters.

Workers at the shelters also help the homeless find jobs and train for interviews, in an attempt to put these people back into society.

Effects

By providing homeless people with access to drug and alcohol counselors, support groups and training for jobs, homeless shelters can help rehabilitate some of the people that stop by. If a person is dedicated to getting back on his feet, he can use the resources provided to him for help.

Lots of people see shelters as a positive way to keep displaced people off the streets, but these places truly provide more than that. They give support, and their staff, if caring enough, can help the 94% of homeless who don't wish to be, go back to living their lives.

Geography

Some believe that homeless people only stay in big cities, but there are people who have no homes in every state, every country, regardless of size. Homeless shelters are often found in bigger cities simply because the population in big cities is higher.

They want to be able to provide service to as many people as possible, so big cities are the best place to put them. But every place in the world has some people living on the streets. It is a worldwide problem.

Misconceptions

Some believe that homeless people want to be that way. According to Goodwill, less than 6% have chosen this lifestyle.

Another misconception is that every street person has a mental illness. Though some do, Goodwill states that only about 25% of the homeless are mentally ill.

It is also true that a lot more children are without homes than most people think. Almost one in every four homeless person is a child, usually those who have no caretakers or have run away.

Keep A Pet Ground Squirrel

Ground squirrels can make wonderful pets. Pet ground squirrels are inquisitive and very intelligent. Though they require a great deal of attention, they are relatively easy to domesticate and seem to enjoy being around humans. Ground squirrels are highly social pets.

Instructions

1. Find a veterinarian in the area who is experienced at treating ground squirrels. Take your squirrel to the veterinarian regularly. Ground squirrels are susceptible to internal and external parasites.

2. Purchase a large cage for your pet ground squirrel. A rabbit cage, sugar glider, ferret or other large rodent cage works well. A multilevel cage is the best option as the squirrel needs room to play and climb.

3. Create a nest in the cage for the squirrel. Use cloth or hay as nesting material. Place the nest away form the squirrel's food and litter box.

4. Put a small litter box in the cage. Fill the cage with organic litter-do not use cedar chips. Clean the litterbox often. Squirrels are very clean animals.

5. Feed your pet ground squirrel grasses, seeds and grains. Nuts, cottage cheese and yogurt should be given only as a rare treat. Give the squirrel a dish with fresh water or use a water bottle made for gerbils.

6. Shower your pet with attention. Ground squirrels are very affectionate and need to spend a lot of time with their pet owner.

Write A Standard Operating Procedure Manual

Write a Standard Operating Procedure Manual

A standard operating procedure is a document that gives step-by-step instructions on complete a task. Think of a brownie recipe. In it, you'll find the exact measurements for each ingredient, the type and size pan needed, the oven temperature and the cooking time. By following the recipe, you should achieve the same results each time you make the dessert. An SOP for a business is much the same. In order to achieve consistent results for the same process, the same steps need to be carried out each time. Whether it is in a pharmacy, a bakery or a high technology manufacturing plant, a standard operating procedure describes perform a job, tells which position does it and details how frequently it is performed.

A group of SOPs, say for a department or an organization, would all come together in a standard operating procedures manual. A complete SOP manual should outline the organization's tasks, showing how individual functions work separately as well as together.

Instructions

1. Create individual standard operating procedures. In order to write an SOP, you will need to thoroughly understand the task at hand. You might do this by interviewing the people who do the job, reading their job descriptions and talking with end users. If it's possible, perform the task yourself to see what it is really like.

2. Write down each step clearly and concisely. Be sure to keep the process divided into individual steps to make them easily understood.

3. After steps have been documented, have someone go through the procedure, following the steps as written. This will allow for corrections and additions.

4. Get departmental approvals as needed.

5. Repeat this process for all individual SOPs.

6. See how it all fits together. Once all of the SOPs have been created, it's essential to see how related jobs interact. Do the SOPs cover all transfers of responsibility from one position or department to the next? You may need to have departmental or work group meetings to compare SOPs and make sure there are no gaps or overlap.

7. Once all of the SOPs have been created and reviewed, put them in manuals and make sure they are available to all employees who need them. Include for each procedure the date it was written, when it was approved and who approved it. This will be helpful when it is time to update them, as they may not all be updated at the same time.

Keep A Lizard For A Pet

Keeping a lizard as a pet is not always as easy as it looks. A lot of research must go into it, and a lot of care as well. Keeping a lizard as a pet can be fun and challenging at the same time. There are certain things you will need to know, such as, what types of food your particular lizard eats, where it should live and the correct temperatures that your lizard needs to survive.

Instructions

Keep a Lizard for a Pet

1. Some lizards are herbivores and some are carnivorous. For the carnivorous types you will need to purchase live bait to feed it. Lizards need live food so they can see it move, which helps them to identify it as food. Fly larvae works for the purpose but be careful since if they are not quickly eaten they will spin cocoons and become flies, which are virtually impossible for the lizard to catch. Live crickets are a better choice as they will breed right there in the lizard's home container. Some of the larger lizards eat live mice so be forewarned when you purchase your lizard.

2. Make sure that you have something roomy enough to house the lizard, depending on its size. Many lizards are relatively small and can comfortably live in a five or ten gallon aquarium. Make sure you keep the top on it however, so the live food does not escape and make itself to home in the walls of your house. This can cause a lot of trouble for you later on, so be very careful when dealing with aquarium lids and live insects, especially the kind that can both fly and hop.

3. If your lizard is the type that will grow bigger than it is right now, you will want to do some research and find out just how big it will get before you ever buy it. Some lizards get very big and the average home will not be able to accommodate such a large specimen. You may want to consider buying only lizards that will grow just a foot or less.

4. Observe your new pet very carefully. This way you will know what its normal behavior is like so you will easily recognize any changes in that behavior. Lizards tend to remain in one position for a very long time so if your pet is acting sluggish it is not necessarily a sign of illness. Remember, lizards are cold blooded so you will need to provide your pet with a heat rock to keep it warm. Once it is plugged in you will notice that quite often your lizard will perch on it.

5. Do not feed your lizard raw meat unless you plan to stick it right in its mouth, as they will not try to eat unless their prey is moving. Live food is essential or your lizard will starve to death. Most lizards do not eat every single day either, so overfeeding can lead to problems, including insect infestation.

Quiet A Pet Bird

Quieting a noisy bird can be a difficult, frustrating task. But you must quell the racket for the sake of your peace of mind and your neighbors'. Here's do it with a minimum of fuss.

Instructions

1. Cover the birds. Many birds calm down in the dark, try placing them in a room that no light enters. A dark, breathable cover can also be used. A small bird can be held close to the body, under a shirt. This provides calming, warmth and darkness, it also allows the bird to better learn your scent and tighten the bond between you and the bird.

2. Engage the bird with toys. Screaming birds can often be attributed to boredom. Placing a stuffed animal, bird-toy or mirror in the cage will help to keep the animal's mind busy.

3. Talk to the bird in soothing tones, although birds generally don't react poorly to screaming. To the bird you are just singing right a long with them. If you speak to him in quiet, calming tones, he will have to turn down the volume on his own song to hear you. If he does respond to your voice, try reaching in to his cage in an unhurried way. Gently rub his neck, this will calm the bird.

4. Reward positive behavior. Birds are smart. They learn what behavior will get the best response quickly. Give him treats when he is quiet is one idea. Avoiding direct eye contact when the bird is being noisy is another.

About A Career As A Police Dog Handler

Canine units can be a valuable addition to a police department. They can aid in tracking criminals, detecting explosives and anti-terrorism activities. Proper handling and training are critical for the dog to perform well during stressful situations. The dog may need to be aggressive, but also need to exercise restraint in delicate situations such as domestic disputes.

Developing Rapport

A key to success is the handler's ability to develop a bond with the dog to ensure that the dog can work as part of a team. This is critical, because the lives of the dog and police officer can depend on how well they perform together in a potentially dangerous situation. Successful training requires patience and persistence from the dog handler, and rewarding the dog at the appropriate time.

Repetition and Consistency

To reinforce the desired behavior in the dog, repeat commands so the animal knows what is expected and does not become confused. This is also important because the dog will likely be asked to perform the same tasks over and over when working in the field, such as detecting illegal narcotics or locating a fugitive or missing person.

Discipline and Praise

While it is important to be strict when training a police dog, the animal needs to feel it is being rewarded for a job well done. Whenever the dog performs a task successfully, the trainer should look directly into the dog's eyes and issue a verbal compliment and/or touch it in a positive manner.

Training Sessions

If the dog comes to associate training with drudgery, it will be more difficult to train properly. By taking no more than 15 minutes at a time to teach the dog a specific task, you will have a better chance of maintaining the dog's attention. It also helps to focus on only one task per session to prevent the dog from becoming confused.

Developing Skills

The skills necessary to become a police dog handler can be developed through special training programs that last up to eight weeks. In addition to learning train the dogs, coursework can include select a strong candidate for a training dog and develop canine training and handling policies and procedures for police departments.

Care For A Tiger

Taking care of a tiger can be challenging.

Taking care of a tiger is a huge responsibility, demanding considerable resources and commitment. Unlike house cats, which have been domesticated over thousands of years, tigers are wild cats and can be unpredictable and potentially dangerous. Tigers also have dietary requirements unlike that of the regular house cat; tigers require fresh meat to survive. You must also be trained in handling your tiger, since improper handling can cause your tiger to turn on you.

Instructions

1. Contact a veterinarian specializing in tigers and make arrangements for regular care. Tigers require specialized care and must be treated by veterinarians who are experienced with wild cats. The U.S. Dept of Agriculture, that oversees licensing, will not issue you a license to have a tiger unless you have made arrangements with a qualified veterinarian.

2. Contact your state's wildlife agency to learn the state requirements for tiger ownership, then contact your local government concerning licensing requirements and zoning laws. Owning a tiger also requires you to have a U.S.D.A. license from the federal government, issued by the Animal and Plant Heath Inspection Service.

3. Build an enclosure for your tiger that is a least 500 to 1,000 square feet. The enclosure should also have a shelter and proper drainage. Build an outer fence around it as a buffer zone to prevent anyone from approaching the inner fence.

4. Arrange for the feeding of your tiger. Commercially produced tiger food is available directly from the manufacturers and is recommended, particularly since improperly prepared food can make your tiger sick. Commercial tiger food is primarily horse meat because it is lean and closely resembles a wild tiger's natural prey. Ask your veterinarian to recommend a particular brand of tiger food and for a recommended feeding program.

Size Beads

Size beads as you make jewelry to create beautiful pieces.

When you enter the world of jewelry making with beads, you must quickly become adept at metric measurements because bead sizing uses the metric system. As you shop for beads, pay attention to the bead sizes to learn the basics of measuring beads. A six millimeter bead is approximately 1/4-inch long, giving you about 65 six millimeter beads on a 16-inch necklace strand. Vary the bead sizes on your jewelry pieces for an attractive beading display.

Instructions

1. Compare bead length to inches to understand bead sizing. The smallest 2mm beads are slightly over 1/16-inch long. Much larger 25mm beads are nearly 1 inch in length. In the middle of these two sizes, 12mm beads are approximately 1/2-inch long.

2. Fill a 16-inch strand with beads of varying sizes to see the difference in size. It will take one hundred 4mm beads to fill a 16-inch strand. It will take fifty 8mm beads to fill a 16-inch strand. It will take thirty-two 12mm beads to fill the same strand. Make an 8-inch bracelet with one hundred 2mm beads, thirty-three 6mm beads or seventeen 12mm beads.

3. Compare seed bead sizes to inches to help size them. It takes 20 size 11/0 seed beads--the most popular seed bead size--to equal 1 inch. Seed bead numbers get larger as the beads get smaller. It takes 10 size 6/0 seed beads and 25 size 15/0 seed beads to equal 1 inch.

4. Add bugle beads to jewelry according to size. Size 1 bugle beads are the smallest and are 2mm in length. Size 3 bugle beads are approximately 1/4-inch and size 5 bugle beads are 7/16-inch long.

Act Of Kindness Ideas

One demonstrations of kindness is the desire for peace for all people.

The act of being kind creates an environment where people of all different creeds, races and beliefs can extend a helping hand to their fellow man. Kindness transcends differences if it is done with a pure heart.

There are so many different ways that a committee of one person can make a difference in a child, an elderly person or other fellow human beings that are experiencing hard times. Kindness is a universal medicine to the soul of a person.

Reach Out to the Homeless

Provide aid to a homeless shelter. There are thousands of people that can use gently worn clothes simply because they cannot afford to buy clothes from regular department stores. In addition, volunteer at a local homeless shelter and serve in the food line. Taking personal time to serve your fellow man demonstrates a high level of kindness that pierces the soul of a hurting individual.

Extend a Helping Hand to Parents

Provide childcare services to a married couple who has several children. This simple act of kindness will help the couple spend quality time together and foster a stronger relationship between them. Offer to take the children of a neighbor to the park or a movie while their parents go out to dinner. The sky is the limit to what you can do to assist a couple in having the opportunity to reignite their flames of passion.

Touch the Lives of Those who are Suffering

Reach out to persons who are suffering from terminal illnesses. One example would be to take stuffed animals to the local children's hospital. Another example would be to participate in different marathons, run-walks and other fundraisers that benefit persons who have medical challenges or terminal diseases.

Preserve the Environment for the Future

Demonstrate kindness towards the environment. Change regular light bulbs to halogen based light bulbs. Walk to work instead of driving a car that pollutes the environment. Pick-up paper off the ground along a major roadway or street to keep the area beautified.
