Appearance

Identify A Shih Tzu

Shih tzus are bred to be house pets.

The shih tzu was bred as a house pet and companion, so it must be a happy, outgoing and friendly dog. Since this breed was bred specifically for a house pet, it should not be reserved toward strangers, nor should it ever be aggressive. 1. Look at the general appearance of the shih tzu. It should be solid and should carry its weight and substance properly. 2. Make sure the round, broad head is proportionately balanced with the rest of the dog. It has a warm, sweet expression, helped along by large, round eyes. They are not prominent and are place quite far apart on the skull. They are very dark, but may be a bit lighter on liver-colored dogs. The ears are large and set just below the top of the skull. The nose, eye rims and lips are fully pigmented--black on all colors, except for liver dogs. Liver dogs have a liver pigmentation on the nose, eye rims and lips. Blue pigmented dogs will have blue-pigmented eye rims, nose and lips.

3. Check that the shih tzu is completely balanced. The neck is long enough to hold the head proudly and sits on well-angulated shoulders and a broad chest. The feet are frim and well-padded. The rear angulation should match the front angulation, giving the dog perfect balance. The hocks are quite low and the feet are well-padded and firm. The hair on the tail is heavy and the tail is held in a curve over the top of the back.

4. Pet the long, flowing coat. It is a dense coat and should be straight or almost straight, but never curly. The shih tzu can be of any color and may have a number of different markings, but no markings are set in the breed standard.

Some adult dogs have never been housebroken.

Housebreaking is a process where a dog's owner trains the dog to relieve itself in an appropriate place at an appropriate time. While this is a process that is typically associated with new puppies, adult dogs may need to be housebroken as well. Whether the adult dog has never been housebroken before or it simply needs a refresher course, it is important for the owners to know a few key facts about the process.

Causes

In some cases, adult dogs that have been rescued may have never been housebroken. They may have simply been exclusively outdoor dogs in their previous homes. Some dogs who have been abandoned or rescued might have once been housebroken, but their training might have been weakened by fewer opportunities to relieve themselves outside of their cage. For some dogs, a reminder of their previous housebreaking is all that is required, but some dogs require a complete reintroduction to the concept.

Considerations

Make sure that the adult dog is completely healthy before you start house training it. If you own a dog who was previously housebroken, but suddenly starts having accidents, there may be a medical problem that is causing it.

Supervision

Monitor the dog at all times. You cannot count on a crate or a small enclosed space to prevent a dog from relieving itself at first. Do not say, "Your book is over there," and do not point---he will not see where you are pointing.

3. There are many reasons why a person might be deaf or blind. It could be related to an illness, a physical or neurological disability, or an injury or accident. Don't make assumptions, but don't be afraid to ask polite questions. Sometimes, the person may have an aide or an interpreter to assist her. In this case, it is still OK to ask questions---just ask politely. Don't ignore the person. Smile and show an interest. Share information about yourself as well, and perhaps find hobbies or interests that you both might share.

4. If the person is deaf, don't call out to say that you are leaving. Do not shout at someone who is deaf---that will not make him hear you any better. Tell him you are leaving while facing him so that he can read your lips. For a blind person, tell him that you are leaving. Don't simply leave without announcing it first.

Make An Easy To Clean Bunny Cage

While pet stores sell bunny cages, they are often expensive and too small for your pet's needs. Make your own bunny cage for less money and provide your bunny the space she needs to be healthy and happy. Using materials you can easily clean with vinegar and bleach or that you can easily replace makes taking care of your bunny much easier.

Instructions

1. Measure the length and width of your rabbit with the tape measure and multiple those numbers by four to determine the size of your bunny cage. Cages should be approximately four times the size of your bunny for her to be comfortable.

2. Build the four walls of your cage by connecting the storage grids with the cable ties. Please note that each grid is generally 12 to 14 inches long, so number of grids for each side varies depending on the size of your cage.

3. Connect three of the walls together with the cable ties. Secure the fourth wall with the carabiner clips to create a door. For easy cage cleaning or to let your bunny out, just remove the clips on one side and open the door. (References 2 and 3)

4. Put the coroplast on the floor. Place the cage walls on top of the coroplast. Draw the cage dimensions on the coroplast with the pencil. Cut the shape with the scissors.

5. Place the sea grass mats on top of the coroplast. If necessary, cut the mats to the measurements of the coroplast if you want a perfect fit. Sea grass provides some padding for your bunny and is safe for her to chew on. It also provides protection for the coroplast during your bunny's "litter box training" period.

6. Place the litter box in the cage. Once your bunny is litter trained, cleaning the cage will be even easier.

1. Purchase a crate for your puppy prior to bringing your puppy home. Keep it in a quiet location in your home. This crate will serve as the dog's den as well as a means of keeping the dog safe and mistake-free in the house. Lay a clean towel in the crate for padding to keep the dog comfortable.

2. Establish a spot in the yard that is close to the house where your puppy is to eliminate. As soon as you bring the puppy home, take the puppy to this spot and say "potty." This cue word will soon be associated with the puppy knowing that it must relieve itself. Once the puppy eliminates, praise it profusely and bring it back inside immediately. Being allowed back into the house is part of the reward for good behavior.

3. Feed your puppy on a regular schedule. While adult dogs will only need one meal, puppies will need to be fed multiple times during the day. As a rule, puppies relieve themselves immediately after eating and drinking water; as soon as the puppy finishes eating, take the remaining food away and pick up the puppy to take it outside to the elimination area. Say "potty" and wait until the dog eliminates. All puppies will need to eliminate; take care not to bring the puppy back inside too quickly, as chances are the puppy will eliminate once indoors.

4. Play with the puppy throughout the day and take it outside once you are done playing, as the puppy will need to eliminate again. Once the puppy eliminates, praise it, bring it back inside and crate it to let it rest. It should soon nap, and once the puppy wakes up, take it outside again as soon as you let it out of the crate before you do anything else.

5. Place the puppy into the crate any time you will be unable to watch the dog. When the dog is not in the crate, your eyes must be on the puppy at all times. Puppies have body language (e.g., sniffing the ground) prior to eliminating, and it is crucial that you catch this language prior to the puppy making a mistake. As soon as you see this behavior, take the puppy outside. If you are otherwise engaged, place the puppy back into the crate after making sure the puppy doesn't need to eliminate.

6. Take the puppy outside first thing in the morning before you do anything else, and do it again as the last thing you do before going to bed. The puppy will not be able to hold it overnight for the first few months, and you will need to set your clock to wake up to take the puppy out. Do not skip this step, or the puppy will begin to think that eliminating in its crate is acceptable.

7. Repeat all of these steps consistently and on a schedule. Before long, your puppy will go to the door wanting to be let out, and you will be well on your way to having a perfectly housebroken dog.

You can sell items from a catalog, in which the company provides everything you need, including booklets, collection envelopes and even prizes. Or, you can provide a service as a fundraiser, such as a car wash. You must consider the age and number of people involved. A small group may be able to do a car wash, but hundreds of children/adults will not.

3. Check your calendar and choose the date(s) to start this fundraiser. Do not worry about pleasing everyone, especially if you have a large group, but you may want to talk with your members/students if you have a small group.

4. Promote your fundraiser. Get the word out, not only within the group, but within the community as well. Contact your local newspaper and see if they will promote your event. If you are selling items, the use of prizes is a big motivator. If all your prizes are included for you, make sure you promote them to the members/students. If there is no "big" or "grand" prize for top sellers, consider providing one. It doesn't have to be an expensive item (but you might be able to get one donated), but it could be an afternoon off of school for lunch at the park.

Less known than the more common diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus, described by Dr. Susan Thorpe-Vargas as "the other diabetes," can occur in dogs of any age, gender or breed. Diabetes insipidus is a dangerous illness, as its symptoms can go unnoticed in an unobserved dog and dehydration can occur within four to six hours. There are two types of diabetes insipidus: Central diabetes insipidus, also known as vasopressin-sensitive DI, is characterized by a deficit of anti-diuretic hormone, resulting in a water imbalance and the inability to concentrate urine. Nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, or vasopressin-resistant DI, occurs when, although enough anti-diuretic hormone is produced, the kidneys are unresponsive. Both types of diabetes insipidus present with the same symptoms.

Polydipsia

Polydipsia is characterized by excessive and continuous fluid intake. Due to excessive urination and dehydration, your dog will become insatiably thirsty, looking for water wherever he can find it. You may observe him drinking from unusual places, like a dripping faucet, the toilet bowl or water puddles. Generally speaking, if your dog is consuming more than 100 ml of fluid per day, this is considered abnormal. Never withhold water from your diabetic dog. Once he has received treatment and his system has regulated, the excessive drinking should cease. Polydipsia can be symptomatic of many different illnesses, so in-depth testing by a qualified veterinarian is necessary.

Polyuria

Polyuria, or diuresis, is when your dog produces an abnormally large volume of urine, which is the direct result of polydipsia. Polyuria may go unnoticed if your dog lives outdoors or has easy access to the back yard via a doggie door. However, if your dog lives inside, you may notice that she asks to go outside more than usual, or that she is beginning to have accidents in the house. Like polydipsia, polyuria is symptomatic of many conditions, so testing and diagnosis by your veterinarian is needed to confirm diabetes insipidus.

Electrolyte Imbalance

Electrolytes are salts that are found in body fluids, tissues and blood, and are vital for muscle coordination, the absorption and excretion of fluids, and nerve and heart function. If your dog is suffering from polyuria, he will lose valuable electrolytes through his urine. Symptoms of electrolyte imbalance include increased thirst, lethargy, drowsiness, restlessness, gastrointestinal disturbance, oliguria (decreased urine production) and tachycardia (rapid heartbeat).

Dehydration

Dehydration occurs when your dog's fluid levels are below normal and can be the direct result of polyuria, polydipsia and electrolyte loss. Dehydration in and of itself can be a life-threatening condition if not treated immediately. Symptoms of dehydration include sunken eyes, dry and tacky gums, thick saliva, lethargy, depression, loss of skin elasticity and tachycardia.

Other Symptoms

Other symptoms that may indicate diabetes insipidus are disorientation, lack of coordination, unsteady gait, stupor or seizures. These symptoms, like the others, could be indicative of a number of disorders, so veterinary testing and diagnosis is necessary. Through testing, your veterinarian will be able to determine if two other symptoms of diabetes insipidus are present: low levels of ADH, the hormone necessary for urine concentration; and, through urinalysis, a low specific gravity of urine (high water content).

Instructions

1. Write an outline to start. Write down all of the good points you can think of about the prospective parents, including descriptions of qualities they possess that will make them good parents. Also, include any significant contributions they have made to the community and information about their manner of living.

2. Begin your reference with an introduction. Let the adoption agency know who you are, how you know the prospective parents and how long you have known them. Keep your introductory statements to one paragraph.

3. Include a separate paragraph about each member of the couple. Keep it brief and focus on describing the individual's best qualities.

4. Add one to two paragraphs describing the prospective parents as a couple. Again, focus on their good points. If they've encountered any challenges in their lives in the past, discuss how they have overcome them.

5. Conclude with a paragraph outlining the reasons the couple will make good parents and encourage the adoption agency to approve them for a child.

6. Edit your letter of reference to remove any wording that is too flowery or sentimental. Your reference should be succinct and to the point. It should show the couple in a good light, but not be so glowing as to sound unbelievable. You want the couple to sound like the good people they are, not like candidates for sainthood.

5. Have one person in charge of coordinating volunteers. Always have a backup to fill in on short notice for the night shift.

6. Develop a good relationship with your local police. Make them aware of the rules you've set and how you're going to enforce them. Ask for their suggestions on making your shelter safe.

7. Hold fundraising events and encourage your homeless beneficiaries to participate. Clothe them respectably and train them on interact with those who will attend. Being in close contact with the people they're helping makes a more powerful impression on your supporters.

Micro-chipping your pet is like putting a permanent collar on your pet. The procedure involves placing a small chip the size of a grain of rice inside your dog. According to The Pet Medic, microchips are commonly placed between the shoulder blades by a vet or someone who works at an animal shelter. This is a minor procedure that is painless to the animal. This small chip contains a unique number that corresponds to a number in a national database which has your stored contact information. 4. Click "Add," then enter your friend's Username to your Friends List. Your friend will need to do the same thing with your Username so you can see and recognize each other.

5. Search for your friend by Username in the different color zones available on your Webkinz virtual cell phone. Your friend must be online with his or her cell phone turned on for you to invite them over.

6. Find your friend's username in a color zone. If it has a green smiley face you can invite that friend to interact with you. Click on their Username, then click "Invite" on your cell phone.

7. Wait for your friend to accept or decline your invitation. If they accept, you'll hear a doorbell and your friend's virtual pet will appear in your Webkinz world so you can interact in a safe environment.

12. Give water to the tree in the Wobbly Woods. Pick up blueberries in the woods as well. Scroll to the right side of the screen and locate a large tree. He asks for water. Locate the bucket of water in the middle of the woods. The owl will lend it to you in exchange for books, which you can pick up on the path.

13. Play the skeleton's mini game. Speak with the skeleton by the spooky tree house and play his bug-sliding mini game. When you win, you will receive a key to the house inside the tree. Enter the tree house.

14. Pick up the rat droppings, candle, feather, troll snot, bottle, mushrooms, firewood and cauldron.

15. Place the cauldron over the stove and the firewood in the stove. Mix the blueberries, rat droppings, mushrooms, feather and troll snot in the cauldron. Light the firewood with the candle. Put the bottle on the cauldron to fill it with potion.

16. Use the potion on the egg in the cage. The egg will shrink and you can grab the egg.

17.Return the egg to Bumblechop. He will ask you to put it on the stand in the middle of his house. The egg will hatch and Lady GooGoo will appear. Right click Lady Goo and select "Keep It."

Capuchin monkeys are natural tree dwellers.

Capuchin monkeys are native to South American rain forests. They are easily trainable, which makes them good pets and performers, and they have been used as therapy animals for quadriplegics since 1979. Though capuchin monkeys care for humans, they also need care from humans. In the wild they bathe in their own urine to attract a mate; domestic capuchins can be bathed with baby shampoo in order to keep them sanitary around humans.

Instructions

1. Turn on the sink and let the water run until it is lukewarm. Place the stopper in the sink to allow water to collect in the sink. Remove the capuchin's diaper if it is wearing one.

2. Put the capuchin in the sink. Use a cup to gather water and pour it over the capuchin, wetting its fur. Allow it to move around in the sink and clean itself.

3. Drizzle baby shampoo down the capuchin's back, then rub it in with your hands. The capuchin will continue scooping water up in its hands and bathing itself. Use a cup to gather water and rinse off the shampoo.

4. Turn off the faucet and wrap the capuchin in a towel to dry.

Coonhound Facts

The five breeds of coonhounds recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) all share a common history. Each was bred to be a hunter's partner. They all have stamina, ability to follow a scent and intelligence to track and follow prey while running ahead and out of sight of their humans. Keep in mind these characteristics when considering a coonhound as a family pet.

Temperament

Coonhounds are high energy and best for the people who are outdoorsy, active and include their dog in most every activity. The coonhounds' hunting instincts come shining through as pets. Coonhounds need to run, and they bark loudly--so you know where to find them when they have treed their prey. They are often described as intelligent, affectionate and good with children.

The Michigan Coonhound Rescue warns that "bored hounds will find a way to occupy themselves. You will probably not enjoy the results, which can range from climbing fences and getting into the neighbor's garbage, to the complete destruction of your sofa or your landscaping."

Black and Tan Coonhound

Bred from the Talbot hound known in England and the bloodhound, the Black and Tan was bred in the United States to hunt raccoons. They stand 23 to 27 inches at the shoulder and by AKC breed standards should have an "even temperament" and be "outgoing and friendly."

Redbone Coonhound

The Redbone is descended from the Scottish red foxhounds and red Irish foxhounds. After more than 100 years of refining, the Redbone first joined the ranks of AKC recognition in 2009. These dogs range from 21 to 27 inches in height at the shoulder. They do well as family dogs, but their hunting instincts will kick in, and they are likely to chase and harass family cats.

Treeing Walker Coonhound

The only coonhound whose name does not describe their coat color is the Treeing Walker. These are white dogs with black and tan markings mostly on their head and back. The AKC gives the Treeing Walker "'the people's choice' among all coonhound breeds." Similar in size to the Redbone with a height range of 20 to 27 inches, these coonhounds like to work and compete in training events.

Bluetick Coonhound

The term bluetick refers to this coonhound's blue-gray spotted pattern. Their breeding and development focused more on creating a hunter that took its time and did not give up in pursuit. As a pet, Blueticks may be slightly less active when compared to other coonhounds, but owners may find they are purposeful and determined dogs. Their size ranges from 21 to 27 inches in height.

American English Coonhound

Similar in size to other coonhounds, reaching heights between 23 and 26 inches, the American English coonhound was bred with a sleek body for fast pursuit of its prey. The AKC comments on their temperament as being "pleasant, alert, confident and sociable with humans and dogs."

For example, Farmer A is a sole proprietor declaring a $50,000 net profit on his farm income on which he pay a self-employment tax of 15 percent. Then he decides to form an LLC and transfers the real estate to it. The LLC charges the farmer $40,000 annual rent to use the property, which is no longer reported as personal active income but as passive income to the LLC and subsequently, the farmer. The net effect is that it reduces the amount he has to pay self-employment taxes on to $10,000.

Social Security

If a farmer is between the ages of 63 and 70 and receiving Social Security benefits, forming an LLC could allow him to preserve those benefits. Assume a net income of $50,000 from the above example. This would put the farmer well above the amount of income allowed by Social Security, triggering a reduction or elimination of benefits. By forming an LLC and transferring $40,000 to passive income from rent, the farmer reduces his actual earned income to only $10,000, which is a small enough amount so he can continue to collect Social Security. Remember this situation is hypothetical and may not apply to everyone. You should check with a tax professional before making changes to your business entity.

Future Plans

An LLC can provide more stability for the farming operation since it exists as an eternal business entity that continues even if one or more partners meet an untimely death. A chain of succession can be designated within the LLC. In addition, by designating a gradual transfer of ownership percentages, it is possible for a farmer to gift the farm to the next generation within the tax protected structure of an LLC.

Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Staffordshire Bull Terriers are one of the smallest of the "pit bull" type breeds. Despite their reputation in the media, Staffordshire Bull Terriers make excellent family pets due to their intelligence, temperament, and ability to calmly endure (and more frequently enjoy) roughhousing with small children. Staffordshire Bull Terriers are also beautiful and majestic animals. Nowhere is this more obvious than in a good show-quality dog.

Size and Proportion

American Kennel Club standards state that a Staffordshire Bull Terrier should be between 14 to 16 inches tall when measured at the shoulder. Male dogs are expected to be between 28 to 38 pounds, while female dog standards are set at 24 to 34 pounds. The distance between the highest point between the shoulder blades (withers) to the base of the tail should be the same as the measurement from the withers to the ground.

Color

A variety of colors are allowed in AKC show competitions. However, black-and-tan as well as liver color are not allowed entry.

Coat

A smooth and short coat on Staffordshire Bull Terriers is preferred in AKC competition. Trimmed coats are explicitly proscribed, and the dog's whiskers must be totally intact.

Head

Staffordshire Bull Terriers are known for their heads. Breed standards for a show dog include the characteristic broad skull, as well as prominent cheeks and a short snout. Black noses are preferred, with a pink nose being a significant deviation from breed standards. Dark eyes that point straight forward are preferred, with light eyes and pink rimmed eyes representing a fault. Full-prick and full drop ears are frowned upon by judges; rose and half-prick ears are the standard for show dogs. The bottom fang tooth (incisor) should touch the inside of the upper fang tooth. Overbites and underbites are also strongly discouraged.

Tail

The tail of a Staffordshire Bull Terrier should be slightly curved and come to a point at the end. Curled and docked tails are considered a significant deviation from the breed standard.

Legs

All legs should be straight and parallel with one another when viewing the dog from the back, and they should remain so when the dog is walking. Front legs should be set fairly far apart with feet turned slightly outward. The rear legs should be muscular but otherwise like the front legs.

Socializing

When a puppy opens his eyes around the second week of life, human touch should be introduced. As long as the breeder has contact with the puppy before he is 7 weeks old, the puppy will get comfortable with human affection and touch. A reputable breeder will make sure the puppy is handled with love and adapted to children as well.

Fear stage

Between 8and 11 weeks, puppies go through a fear imprint period. If an injury or frightening experience happens when a puppy is in this age bracket, it result in a life-long phobia. Ideally, a good breeder will spend some time with the puppy every day to socialize and care for him. Also, the mother dog should be nearby to let her pup know he is safe.

Potty training

Between 7 and 12 weeks, a good breeder will start potty training with a crate or a cage and rewarding good eliminating habits.

Bonding with the puppy

Once the puppy is 11 to 12 weeks old, he is ready to be separated from the pack. Make sure the new owner knows the pup may whine when he's wondering where his mother or brothers and sisters are. Baby birds are not able to catch their own food. Even if you place a worm or bug next to it, it will probably not be able to eat it. The majority of mother birds feed their babies by chewing up small, soft insects, then regurgitating them into the baby's open beak. Therefore, to feed a baby bird, you need to put the food directly into its mouth. This article is specific to baby pet birds such as cockatoos, as wild baby birds usually do not survive being taken care of by people unless cared for by a specialist.

How Much and How Often?

Baby birds grow at a tremendous rate, and as such, need a large amount of food. They also need to be fed at very frequent intervals, which depends on age. For a bird less than 1 week old, this could mean every hour around the clock. Birds 1 to 2 weeks old need to be fed every 2 to 3 hours, again around the clock. At age 2 to 3 weeks, baby birds should be fed every 3 to 4 hours, stopping at midnight and resuming at 6:00 a.m. Once birds become 1 month old, they can be fed every 4 hours or so, from 6:00 a.m. to midnight. It is easy to tell how much to feed baby birds; feed them until they do not open their beaks for more.

What to Feed and Feed?

If at all possible, use a commercial brand of bird formula, such as Kaylee Exact. Warm up the formula by mixing it with warm or hot water until it is as thick as gravy. Use an eye dropper or syringe to feed the bird. Fill it with the formula, and insert it into the bird's beak, above the tongue towards the back and on the bird's right side. Hold the bird's head between your index and middle finger, and pry the beak open with your thumb, if the bird does not open it automatically. Slowly squeeze the formula diagonally across the back of the tongue. Give the bird a chance to swallow and breath before giving him more food.

Rescued baby Eastern cottontails should be returned to the wild as soon as they are old enough.

Eastern cottontails, or Sylvilagus floridanus, are a wild species of rabbit that grow up to 16 inches long and can weigh up to three pounds. They are mostly brown in color, with white bellies and white, cotton-like tails. They live in territories of open country that can span from 15 to 100 acres, and feed on grass, weeds, dandelion, and legumes. Cottontails are not domesticated rabbits and do not fare as well in captivity as other species. In some cases they may need to be rescued and raised until they are able to care for themselves and be set free again in the wild.

Instructions

1. Create a nest. Use a box with tall sides or a plastic tub and line the bottom with an old towel, shirt or cloth. Baby cottontails need to be kept at about 78 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. If the nest does not stay that warm on its own, place a heating pad inside it wrapped up in a sheet or directly underneath one. Do not let the rabbit come in actual contact with the heating pad as some can be too hot and burn the rabbit's delicate skin.

2. Feed the rabbit. If the cottontail is very young it will need to be bottle-fed every four hours. Create formula using one part Esbilac powder, one part water, and one-fourth part heavy whipping cream. Do not overfeed the rabbit, as this can lead to digestive health problems. Once it stops trying to feed, take the formula away until the next feeding time. If the rabbit is old enough to eat solid foods, provide it with pellets, hay and fresh vegetables such as carrots at least twice a day.

3. Handle the rabbits only as needed. Eastern cottontails are not domesticated and are more prone to skittishness and fear than other species of rabbit. They may sit still in your hands when you pick them up but this doesn't necessarily mean they are OK with you touching them. They may just be too scared to jump away. If they are very young and you handle them often, they may become used to being touched and it won't stress them out. But if they are older when you obtain them, keep handling to the minimum necessary.

4. Watch for signs of ill health. Baby rabbits can become sick easily and quickly, and once they are sick it may become serious before you have even noticed. Stress, temperatures that are too hot or too cold, overfeeding, underfeeding or parasites can all affect baby Eastern cottontails. If you think they are showing signs of bad health, take them to a veterinarian immediately.

But, no matter the reason, trapping a feral cat should be done safely and in a way that minimizes the danger of harm to both you and the cat. Read on to learn how.

Instructions

1. Decide what you are going to do with the cat after it is caught. If the cat will be taken to an animal shelter or to animal control, make arrangements ahead of time.

2. Read the instructions carefully on set the trap properly. There are several humane traps on the market and each will have different requirements. This is an important step for your safety and the cat's.

3. Begin to feed the cat regularly if you have not already been doing so. Make sure to place the food at the same time and place every day. After a few days, place the unset trap, covered by the blanket or towel, near the food so the cat becomes used to it.

4. Bait your trap using the smelly fish. Your particular trap should have instructions on bait properly.

5. Set your trap around dusk. Be sure never to leave your trap unattended. Cats can suffer hypothermia in excessive heat or drown in rain storms. An unknowing passer-by might release the cat or take the trap. Stay out of sight, but close enough to know when you have caught the animal.

6. Cover the trap with a blanket or towel leaving the entrance to the trap exposed. This will help calm the cat when it is caught. Wear thick gloves when handling the trap.

7. Transport the trap and cat to your predetermined destination.

2. Call around to local pet shops, feed stores and other animal-loving places to find out if they know anyplace where pets can get vaccinated for cheap. Some pet shops may feature their own clinic and offer less expensive vaccinations than you’d pay for at the vet.

3. Ask other pet owners. Of course, make sure the pet that person’s pet isn’t dying of rabies or has some other disease that could have been vaccinated against. If you see a person with a healthy, happy pet, simply ask where she takes her beloved animal for vaccinations. Pet owners love sharing tips that will help other animals.

4. Do it yourself. The cheapest method for vaccinations by far is administering them yourself. Supplies you need will again be found at many feed stores or online. If your local feed store does not have the supplies, ask them where they would recommend getting them. Don’t randomly choose a source without knowing its reputation. Also make sure you know what you’re doing. Administering too much, too little or the wrong vaccine in the wrong way can severely harm your pet.
